Are the SA Government in trouble?

Labor, Liberal, Greens, Democrats? Here's the place to discuss.

NSW Treasurer Costa calls NSW govt morally corrupt, and calls for abolishing state governments.

Couldn't agree more. The proposed new hospital in the current economic environment may be a monumental disaster, I can see costs going well above the $1.7 billion. A prudent government would put this project on hold until it is clear that the current financial crisis is over, however one suspects Media (Mediocre) Mike's ego won't permit this.

The new world order is beginning, and will reach Australia soon...
In the latest UK poll: Conservative 52%, Labour 24%, Lib-Dems 12%.

Mick, If any of this project is on borrowed money which it probably is should be treated very cautiously. See in today's tiser they have already pissed up $17 million on consultants and they haven't even dug a hole yet

How can it be a new world order, when the conservatives have been in power in the USA for 8 years and they have only been less than a year out of power in Australia?

I'm not sure that a UK opinion poll will (or ever has) accurately predicted an Australian election.

Wishful thinking, Psyber :?

I agree with that, but Psyber is trying to suggest that trend will soon reach Australia.

Nothing more than an opinion.

Even the Democrats in the US are conservative in social policy compared to our experience here so that matters little. UK Labour has held on for a long time, so that is a big shift.

While some things in Australia do tend to follow overseas trends - like we built open classrooms in schools in Austrtalia just as the Brits were closing them down as a failure - I'm not arguing with your last statement. I was just stirring gently with the original post - note the wink...

In NZ the conservatives are favoured to win their upcoming election in Nov/Dec this year.

Yes 17% (306 votes)
No 76% (1357 votes)
Undecided 6% (113 votes)

Total of 1776 votes

Well I thought I was kidding, when I posted the quote from myself!
My wife's theory is that state Labor governments start to fold soon after we get a federal Labor government each time - but I think we'd need Spelly to analyse the past records to test that one.

Now Psyber, contain your excitement

Somehow I think an internet poll showing the ALP getting 17% of the vote has about as much credibility as you supporting an Australian as GG instead of Prince Charles :D

I think the Newspoll out a day or two ago had Rann leading narrowly.

As for Governments being elected as the party opposite whoever is in government in Canberra, I suspect it works both ways, but I'm not sure about it being more than a minor trend.

When Labor were the Federal Govt between 1983 and 1996, I would say that the ALP were in government in Qld, NSW, Vic, SA, WA and Tassie quite a lot.

I could research it, but I wouldn't want to let the facts dampen your high spirits in predicting the fall of socialism world wide (except in capitalist USA, of course). :D

I agree the numbers in most polls are too small to mean anything. But it is fun...
In the US I'm barracking for Barak, and I liked Jimmy Carter, as much as I take any interest in US politics.
As a kid of 13 I named my new cat "Franklin" after FDR - after I'd read FDR's biography.
I'm not as totally Conservative as you assume! 8)

I originally thought that BS (apt that eh?) but I'm not so sure the Libs are going to find the right candidate with the right profile to take her on. Sure they'll find someone eventually, but...who would want to win this seat in the current time? On a hiding to nothing. Will be interesting.
We'll find out by Xmas which horse the Libs will ride here. They will put everything into winning this seat though - just a matter if the candidate's good enough. The names I've been hearing though wouldn't fill any conservative voters with any confidence.

I'd say Tim Flannery would be one to be approached by the major parties. Also, any local mayors a chance along the River? Don't laugh but I bet Ricciuto gets approached as well.

Ha ha - there is one local mayor who won't get asked. The Loxton Waikerie Council's Mayor.....Dean Maywald.

I don't see the other two mayors up this end of the river being asked.

As for Roo, he would've been asked as soon as he retired from footy. In fact I'm pretty certain it's been reported that he was sounded out.
