RIP Bernie, your fighting spirit against asbestos will not be forgot.

from Yahoo7:
Asbestos campaigner Banton dies

Prominent asbestos campaigner Bernie Banton has died at the age of 61, from asbestos-related diseases.

Mr Banton had been suffering from the lung condition asbestosis and asbestos-related pleural disease (ARPD), and was diagnosed with the virulent stomach cancer, peritoneal mesothelioma, in August this year.

All three conditions are caused by previous exposure to asbestos.

Mr Banton had worked with asbestos products during the 1970s when he was an employee at a James Hardie plant.

He later became the face of the campaign to achieve compensation from James Hardie for the many sufferers of asbestos-related conditions.

Mr Banton achieved a measure of compensation last week, reaching a second settlement with former building company James Hardie over his mesothelioma condition.

A friend, Phil Davey, has released a statement on behalf of Mr Banton's family.

"Bernis Banton died peacefully in his sleep this morning at about 1:00 am. He was at home and surrounded by his family," he said.

"Bernie's family have asked me to thank the community on their behalf for their support for Bernie, and to request privacy at this difficult time."

Several people have and Tony's been helping. He seemed to be functioning better back in 2003, but has gone downhill since.

Yes perhaps, I have met Brendan Nelson a few times. I'm not excited by him as an option either... Perhaps I should find a seat and put my hand up.

Who would have you gone for Psyber??? Do you think the new 2nd in charge will be vulnerable in time and what did you read out of the 3 vote margin if anything? Genuine questions and interest ...
Move to Boothby and jump ship to the good guys we dish out pre-selections in Corn Flakes boxes here 'ol son.If ya can tell me where Canberra is you are one up on the last one we had and Mick on this forum is dead right you would have more idea of the party ideals and due process of selection than Ms Cornes had.

shit i have just realised I have taken this a bit off topic ..No disrespect to Mr Banton a great man.RIP

It is a difficult choice to consider as I was not overwhelmed by the options and wondered about some of the younger generation who had not put their hands up. Given that Turnbull irritates some people, although I like some of his ideas, "flexible Brendan" may be the best on offer at the moment. I am reasonably positive about the deputy.

I'll keep the Boothby option in mind. If Brendan can leave the ALP, lead the AMA, then join the Liberal Party, perhaps I can be flexible too. I have thought of buying property in Mayo - down Fleurieau Peninsula a little way as I have a number of friends in that area. It would be a good spot to retire to eventually.
