Legal director of the Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre, Michael Mansell, said Indigenous Affairs Minister Jenny Macklin is not welcome in the state and will not be allowed on Aboriginal-owned land.

Ms Macklin, due to visit Tasmania tomorrow, was described by Mr Mansell as a horror for Aboriginal people.

Mr Mansell has been a critic of the apology to the Stolen Generations saying more should have been done to consult indigenous people.
"The Rudd Government's claims to have exhausted consultation over the apology really means Aboriginal people were told there would not be compensation and the final wording was entirely up to the government," he said.

As I have said before I hope the potential stoush over "compo", which was not going to happen according to some, does not prevent the development of long-term programmes for health and welfare.

Unfortunately nothing will please Michael Mansell he is one white aboriginal with a massive chip on his shoulder. He is a radical that will always give the press something to write about.

The majority are happy with an apology, we as a nation need to get on with the future.

Money will not solve their problems. We need to learn to live together as one without radicals from both sides trying to undermine what the vast majority wants.

Whilst the issue of compensation cannot be blamed on the apology, the apology seems to have encouraged some to further push for it.

Interesting to hear the representative of a Womens group class action in country NSW who had dreadful experiences with a doctor who did not have registrations checked by the NSW Health before being appointed say on radio national"Yes these people and their affected families want an apology from the NSW government and it better come with a cheque stapled to it"

This may interest Psyber. A little birdie told me that the SA Govt. want to appeal the Trevorrow case but don't want the money back. They are currently researching whether they can appeal the decision without seeking the money.

That was reported a month or so ago. They basically want to get more details as to what their legal positon is, their rights and obligations.
