A blow below the belt.

Got to say it's a blow below the belt with the Rudd government abolishing the carers bonus payment. That's got to hurt thousands who rely on a few extra dollars once a year to help get by only to be replaced by a $500 utility allowance.
The channel nine today show has started a petition to get Mr Rudd to change his mind. Click on the link below if you want to show your support.

At this stage, this is just a media beatup. All that has been said is that all areas in which the government may be able to reduce spending will be looked at. They have not said they will abolish the allowance.
It must also be remembered that the previous government brought in this allowance as a 'once-off'. In most likelihood they would also be planning to abolish it someday soon.
