CPI figures

Im intereted in having a look in them. Whats the best place to find the info for the last few years.

I'm not sure apart from searching "CPI" AU only. But you also need to look very closely at what is considered in it, as I suspect it has been manipulated to make the figures look better than they really are.

Well im kind of after say the last 4 - 5 years so that would remove any bias or manipulatulation that your talking about. Anyway any idea where to look?

The manipulation I am talking about has been going on for about 35 years, but it had an upsurge I suspect when the Hawke/Keating government was trying to prop up the "Accord" by keeping CPI looking as low as possible.
[Edit: by "manipulation" I do not mean fiddling the figures, but the choosing of what is included in the "basket" on which they are based.]

Yes, go to the ABS website that Smac provides the link for above. Figures are not manipulated. However, be careful between the distinction of the Headline rate of CPI and the Underlying rate of CPI. The headline rate looks at the actual rate of change of all items whilst the underlying rate takes off the impact of one-off, volatile or unusual changes. The underlying rate is the one which really tells how the economy is performing, inflation-wise.
