The conscience and honest face of the Hawke/Keating government. One of the people you want to see in politics as they tell the truth and care about people. Unlike the Prime Minisers he served under I reckon he was in it for the right reasons...

Unusually blunt for a pollie, much to the chagrin of his colleagues at times, and a great wit.

Also a Geelong tragic - apparently he often spent 'Question Time' writing missives to whoever was coaching the Cats at the time...
