Liberal Party officially a laughing stock

Just when things couldn't get worse for the SA Liberal Party it now turns out they have lost Rob Kerin's ultra-safe seat of Frome! Good call MHS

If the born to rule's wern't so arrogant you'd almost feel sorry for them. I've said Labor will win again easily next year and this all but confirms it.

How true. The arrogant barely competant Rann Government gets a free kick because the opposition is even more hopeless than they are. This is not good for SA we desperately need a good opposition to have a decent government.

That is a really poor result.

It's also the first time I can recall a candidate claiming victory and then losing.

I'd be happy if labour weren't officially the bunch of pricks they are now. Don't worry, Kevin Foley has plenty of that snobby liberal 'born to rule' attitude.

Kerin was a really nice bloke apparently, I used to see him drinking a fair bit in the pubs round North Adelaide.

I admit I'm not a huge fan of the Rann government and it is disappointing we don't have a viable opposition in this state. No one will vote for MHS and the incompotent basket case Libs and then federally the Libs are in opposition for what looks to be a good decade and perhaps even a generation but they can thank John Howard and his unwavering arrogance and extremism for destroying their own party.

I was surprised when we claimed we had "won". I always thought it was going to be difficult to win when there was effectively three candidates lining up agaisnt the Libs, The Nationals (Karlene), An independant Labour candidate and the ALP all preferencing away from Boylan I didn't hold any great hopes.

As soon as The independant got 2nd place after the primaries and Boylan only had a tick over 40 I thought we were F***ed.

Ive alwasy voted Liberal and will continue to do so but this would have to be the lowest part of the party at any level since Ive been following politics.
The Rann government is a shocker but good luck to them as they've got no competition.
Its all bad news for this state as a whole though with incompentents running it and bigger incompentents trying to put them in their place.
Luckily the state virtually runs itself at the moment.

Yeah. It got Paul Keating in exactly the same way, creating the opening for John Howard.
Both were a bit authoritarian for my taste, and Keating the more overtly arrogant.

Sounds like there are vacancies for alternative candidates in both parties in SA. Hmmm... ;)

Wehave the same problem here in Victoria. Whilst Brumby fumbles his way around, Ted comes up and trashes the Labor party whilst he was Liberial Party President when we had Jeff.

I suspect endemic corruption is more the problem here in Victoria than mere incompetence...

And let's not forget that Ted Baillieu personally profited from the sale of state schools under the Kennett government. Whilst Jeff went around closing 350 public schools (Yes folks ! That's 350) the Real Estate agency that Baillieu was a partner in (Knight, Frank and Baillieu) was given a contract to sell 48 of those schools. And as you mention he was Liberal Party President at the time. A time also that the state's Public Transport was sold off to overseas interest, and health funding was cut to bone and in some cases (like outpatient services for mental health patients) abolished altogether. All the time pissing tax payers money up against the wall on a car race, and sinking it into Crown Casino (sorry....Entertainment Complex  ).
It's seriously hard to believe him when he talks about improving health, education and transport in the state. His mob had their chance and they showed how much priority those issues had.

There are those who think that was forced on them by cleaning up after the former Labor government's economic mess of course - just as it was forced on the SA Liberals after Bannon in the same era.
Those allegations of impropriety against Baillieu were picked up by the press and looked into at the time, and nothing came out to support the Labor Party mud-slinging.
I'm sure the Bracks Labor government would have trotted out any evidence they found, after taking office, if there had been any evidence at all.

LL, I accept we'll never meet in the middle on this one - our respective religious dogma get in the way..

Nor do I think there is any evidence that Baillieu was involved beyond his name being on the company.

Yes. But we can discuss

Firstly Bracks would have trotted out any evidence after forming a committee to look into forming a committee that would look into forming a committee that would consult a committee not too far down the track at the end of the day in the fullness of time.

Just for the record....
"Ted Baillieu was forced into a dramatic defence last night over revelations he directly profited
from the Kennett government's decision to close more than 300 Victorian schools.....a real estate agency part-owned by Mr Baillieu was given a contract to sell 48 schools during the 1990s.Mr Baillieu, who was Liberal Party president during the Kennett government's reign from 1992-99, last night admitted to having a financial interestin the parent company of the agency, BaillieuKnight Frank." - The Herald Sun 3/11/2006

And that's the HUN the champion of the Liberals in this state.

As for fixing an ecomonic mess. Yes fair point. But don't turn around and slash jobs and services in the name of "the common good" and "fixing the ecomony" and then pour $40 million a year into a car race that loses money , God knows how many millions into a casino and the crowning turd in the sewer pipe give yourself a pay rise!!!!!

But Jeff's a new man these days. After all he is chairman for Beyond Blue. Pity he didn't have the same compassion when he was in government.
