TV host dubs Rudd a 'camel serial killer'
August 05, 2009 01:50pm

AN American newsreader has launched an on-air rant against Kevin Rudd over camel culling, labelling him a serial killer who launches "air strikes" on animals.

Erin Burnett, an anchor on American financial news channel CNBC, launched a verbal attack targeting Rudd following his government's decision to spend $19 million to cull feral camels in the outback.

"There is a serial killer in Australia and we are going to put a picture up so we can see who it is," a stern-faced Burnett said during a segment on CNBC on Tuesday.

A large photo of Rudd was then shown.

"That would be the prime minister of Australia Kevin Rudd," Burnett said.

"OK well do you know what he is doing?

"He has launched air strikes - air strikes - against camels in the outback."

Burnett, with a stuffed toy camel sitting in front of her, broke away from her usual analysis of stock movements on Wall St to vent about the camel cull.

She raised the issue during a segment with CNBC's colourful financial guru Jim Cramer.

Burnett said there are one million camels living wild in Australia and the animals would be shot.

"They are slaughtering them?" Cramer, looking shocked, asked Burnett.

"They are slaughtering them," Burnett replied.

She also complained the meat and milk from the camels would be wasted.

"Apparently there is a billion dollars of meat out there," Burnett said.

"Are they going to do anything with it?" Cramer asked.

"No. They're just slaughtering them," she said.

"That's genocide. Camelcide," Cramer commented.

Burnett then told Cramer she hoped Australians would see her segment.

"I hope they have this on in the morning in Australia," she said.

As the discussion came to a close the photo of Rudd reappeared on the screen.

"There he is," Burnett said.

"That is the man who approved it."

Burnett is a former anchor with Bloomberg TV and a vice president at financial company Citigroup.

She has a loyal male following in the US and is a favourite of US men's magazine Maxim.

In 2007 she posed for a risque photo shoot for Maxim that included a topless cover. She also made Maxim's top 10 "Hottest News Anchor" list.

I'll leave it to Jimmy41 to track down the imagery ;)

As if K Rudd will care, we've clearly seen via his strip club shenanigans that the man's not a camel.

You'd think she'd show some cameltoe in support of her favourite pet

Funny expression on her face......

What a joke.

Here is a nation who trained Saddam
Here is a nation who flew the Saudis out on 9/11 and pointed the finger at Saddam
Here is a nation who instigated a War On Terror and introduced the Patriot Act which meant the terrorists won
Here is a nation who executes juvenilles and the mentally ill

Yeah, it's all about the Camels....and the ratings.

regards,

REB

They may really carry on when South Africa starts to cull Elephants in Kruger National Park.
Having been there recently, I can see why they will have to do it. The government is stalling because of the expected adverse publicity.
If you had a private zoo and could ship them they'd probably give you as many as you would like.

Pygmy hippo shot in NT

ALYSSA BETTS

November 16th, 2009

A PYGMY hippopotamus has been shot dead during a pig hunting expedition in the Territory.

The hippo is normally native to the swamps of west Africa, in particular Liberia.

Instead, this one - estimated to be about 250kg - was shot while roaming the bush of the Douglas Daly, 200km south of Darwin.

This is about 16,000km away from Liberia.

It is believed the female hippo is an old escapee from Tipperary Station, from when it used to be an exotic animal reserve.

This means it has been poking about the Douglas Daly for the past five years.

Nico Courtney, 27, was out spotlighting for pigs with his mate Rusty on a station in the Douglas Daly district on Saturday night.

"It was about 1am and running away from us - from the tail end it just looked like a big pig," the station worker said.

"We got out, had a look at it, and thought 'that's not a pig, it's a hippo'.

"Then we thought 'you don't get hippos in Australia'."

The pair thought it might be a baby hippo - and then naturally started wondering, as they stood in the middle of dark scrub, "where the hell" its mum and dad might be.

Mr Courtney said he rang a few mates to tell them what happened.

"They told me to go to bed," he said. "So I thought I'd better call the boss, and he said 'no it couldn't be'."

They both decided to get some shuteye and "reassess the situation in the morning".

But it was still a hippo come daylight.

Mr Courtney's boss, Gordon Coward, reckons the hoofer is from Tipperary Station.

"I heard all sorts of funny stories of break outs and people kept saying 'look out for giraffes in the paddock', but I didn't think much of them."

Tipperary Station - which is about 50km from Douglas Daly - was turned into an exotic wildlife sanctuary by its former owner, millionaire Warren Anderson.

Mr Anderson eventually began trying to sell the animals - which included rhinoceroses, hippopotamuses, giraffes, zebras and deer - back in 2003 after selling his interest in the station.

But some of the planned transfers were caught up in a legal wrangle between the Territory Government and Mr Anderson.

The hippo's carcass is now being kept in a cold room at the Douglas Daly Research Farm.
