South Road Tunnel Hindmarsh to Port Rd

Postby Sojourner » Thu Aug 13, 2009 10:33 am

Just wondering why there seems to be no activity on the promised South Rd Tunnel from Manton Street through to Port Rd?

With all the heavy earthmoving equipment gone from the Anzac Highway project, why are they not using it on the promised tunnel project?

Is it perhaps a case of yet another project promised and given advertising in the public domain that has now been shelved?

It's in the too hard basket at the moment. The government are doing the easy vote winning parts of South Road first. Apprently the next section is a $750 long 1.3km long bridge from Wingfield to Regency Road...WTF??

Maybe they are being serviced ready for the Martin Hamilton-Smith colleseum that was/then wasn't/not sure/still on the agenda/no definately not Liberal Party policy .
I will say I assume no public monies spent on Martys pipe dream though so I accept that point .Who needs public money however when you have a "THE ADVERTISER" photographer starting a "we want a stadium ,We want a stadium" chant and then getting off some snaps of the sheep who joined in which lead on the front page the morning after the Adelaide Utd team arrived back in town while being greeted by Mike Rann.Sometimes news just aint news

think you will find that the project start date has been pushed back to late 2010 early 2011. This is because of the lack of vision when planning the ANZAC underpass coming back up to ground level and hitting the tramline  . The tram overpass has now leap frogged the Port Rd Project plus putting in the line to the Ent Centre.

Long term roadworks are governed by a 40Km/h limit 24/7 I believe ... it would be impractical to change the signs twice a day.

Plus it gives them the flexibility work whenever they need to.

It might be slightly annoying but I'm sure the workmen appreciate it. ;)

They are still there during the day

We live down the road and they are still finishing the gardening, the middle of South road on the North side of the intersection and the left hand turn from Anzac Highway heading south.

Seems to be taking ages to finish I have to say.

When was the thing meant to be finished anyway ?

They should make all pedestrian crossings as overpasses and install those wheelchair lifts. That would get rid of a few sets of lights as well....

EDIT: Right got it Hondo ! The company who did the job, has probably gone over time and have now got it down to a skeleton crew to finish off the scraps.

It was 25km/h at 10pm tonight - 1km of witches hats, 1 ute parked in the left lane, two blokes chatting.
