(Miscellaneous debris)

Postby Gozu » Mon Nov 09, 2009 3:54 pm

I thought it might be a good idea to start up a thread for people to post small one off type things that really don't require their own individual threads? I've been meaning to start one for awhile but kept forgetting and an all-encompassing miscellaneous thread would've been best suited for the last few topics I started.

I came across this interesting entry on the Meganomics blog about the Communist Manifesto and the interpretations relevant to today's economy, Megalogenis says

"The lesson of the past two centuries is we are all capitalists in a boom, placing self before society, and socialists in a bust, expecting government to defend our standard of living."

Some good points, but for me it depends on what the funds raised are used for. Perhaps a minimum percentage of funds to be allocated to charitable work to obtain tax free status?

Or income is taxable, but money spent on charitable works is deductible.
I'm all for taxing churches and making me exempt... ;)

No probs but the Crikey folks have gone on their Christmas/New Year's break now so will probably be a couple of weeks until they start up again for the election year.

A friend, a senior Adelaide lawyer, emailed me this this afternoon:
The Pope and Kevin Rudd are on the same stage in front of a huge crowd at the AFL Grand Final.

The Pope leaned towards Mr. Rudd and said, "Do you know that with one little
movement of my hand I can make every person in this crowd go wild with joy?
This joy will not be a momentary display, like those believers in a football
match, but go deep into their hearts and they'll forever speak of this day
and rejoice!"

Rudd replied, "I seriously doubt that. With one little wave of your hand? Show me"

So the Pope backhanded the bastard.
