Harold Holt
17/12/1967
Disapeered
Went into the ocean and never came back

Would have to be close to the greatest unsolved mystery in AU history

Many thought was he drowned, but his body was never found
There were other interesting notions put forward about the disapeerance

One must feel for his immediate family and closest friends at the time and even now
It must be frustrating never having closure on this bizzare happening
Or was there ?

Became an ascended being and rose to the heavens to sit on the right hand of God, as all we Liberal Party members ultimately do... ;)

The was a re-enacted documentary recently starring Normie Rowe that alleged he was on strong pain relief medication at the time and had bad a elbow and back/neck.

There was major political issues on his mind including falling opinion polls and party in-fighting

He had also played tennis the previous day so would have been tired.

The conclusion on that show was that with possibly impaired judgement from the medication, his stressed general state of mind and tired body, he was too ambitious and went out too far on his own, got in trouble and drowned.

Drownings happen all the time and often the body is never found so I think it's just that this time it was the PM that made it seem so much more of a mystery. From the footage of the ocean where he drowned it looked deep and choppy enough that I wouldn't attempt it on my own and I rate myself as a decent swimmer. In hindsight, it was very irresponsible behaviour for a PM but it was a different era. It was an era when Presidents of the US drove around city streets in open cars.

I knew HH's sister-in-law - i.e. Zara's sister - and her son who was about my age, back in the mid 1970s. [The son was a colleague of mine.]
They assumed it was simply an unfortunate nexus of time, tidal currents, and man.
I gathered he did take a few risks when swimming..

I've been around for a long time and have always been involved in charity and support events, and organisations like the Friends of the ASO, and Friends of the State Opera.
Then there are the functions of the AMA, my medical college, and the Liberal Party functions I attend, and old school friends in the Labor party, the law, and the media.
Putting it all together, you get to know a lot of people and meet their friends and acquaintances.

For example, I'd been back in Adelaide only a month early this year, and called into the AMA to transfer back to the SA list, and met the state President who was talking to staff at the desk at the time I walked in, was invited to join his table at the AMA AGM and Annual Dinner, and he introduced me to John Hill, our state Minister for Health at the dinner.
That's how it happens..
