For a bit of lightheartedness....

The State Election will be held on Saturday March 20, 2010.

An election can be called anytime from Monday January 25 at the earliest, to Saturday February 20 at the latest.

What date are you tipping it will be officially called, and why then?

Well it's not about announcing the date the election will be held, (it's fixed!) it's about complying with the legal aspects associated with issuing the Writ, closing the electoral roll, and closing the nominations. It's also about the length of the election period - will the govt go for a long election period by calling it early (ie close to Jan 25), or a short one by calling it late (ie close to 20 Feb).

LOL ... It makes no difference as the parties are already in election mode.

OK, I'll take a punt and say the second week in February. I'm speculating the mid-year budget review will be released next week - a short strange week due to Australia Day and school going back; the govt will then allow a week or so to get a feel for reactions and issues, and then finalise the date to announce the election period has begun. I don't think they want a long election period as they cant make binding decisions in caretaker mode, but if it's too short there are risks there too.

So second week in Feb - let's say Tuesday 9 Feb.

What about you, Fish?
Gozu?
Jimmy_041?
Southee?
Redden Whites?
Anyone else care to "tip" a date, just for fun?

I just hope the election prompts my MP to come around doorknocking again. Last time he came I didn't realise who he was, because his free calendar had a picture of him with hair, but now he is bald. So when he asked if there was anything I wanted to discuss in regards to the current state government, I got caught out. :( I will be ready for him if he comes back.

John Bannon knocked on my door when I lived in Prospect in the 1970s and he was the new candidate for the seat. His wife, of the time, was with him.
I was well "off" Labor at the time, and just grinned and said, "You've got the wrong house for any support here, mate."

No others have ever visited me campaigning, but I'll be at dinner, soon, with a group including Elliott Johnston, a former Communist candidate - that should be interesting.

LOL, off track because it's the Feds but ...

The Friday before the last Federal election I was flying back from Sydney. The 2 fellas next to me started chatting and one was a Liberal supporter who was flying into Adelaide to hand out how to vote cards for the Poodle, who (@&$%) is my local member.

Anyway, the Lib was stating how they will lose the election and quoted internal polling to say that they were gone. I didn't say a word until we were in descent when he asked who was the Labour candidate that was running against Poodle. I calmly replied that it was Mia Hanshin and that the Poodle was going down. The Lib fella then went white.

I had my fun but it wasn't to be ...

Anyway, back on topic.

Too true, and I thought he was in trouble when he backed Turnbull against the wishes of Kaiser Minchin.

That's OK, the famiglia in the SA Liberal party have long memories ... the Wilson's will get some karma one day.
