Did anyone read this tripe in the Sunday Mail? Anyway, they had a two-page spread on this 'Australia Day survey', where 66% of Australians surveyed said that the Federal Government should put a stop to immigration. Plus something about Kevin Rudd saying Australia should keep its 'fair go' attitude.
What is it with people and their prejudices towards immigrants? They seem to think immigration affects their quality of life - bullsh*t. If things have changed so much for the worse in Australia, it's because of our increasingly materialistic values and the fact that we let politicians get away with so much these days. Australia's xenophobic attitude towards immigrants is generally put down to Australia being a 'racist country', but I think it actually stems from the fact that Australia is a selfish country.
As for this 'fair go' crap, I might believe it if it came from Julia Gillard's mouth (although I doubt she'd put it that way, Rudd seems to have swallowed Ocker's Dinkum Australian Dictionary), but Rudd has always concentrated the majority of his efforts on the global stage since he came to power - except for speeches like this, which he trots out every few months like clockwork to reaffirm his bond with the Australian public.
My apologies for the soapbox rant but this really p*ssed me off.
