Campaign Advertising - Labor lost it?

What is it with Rann and his advertising for this campaign?

Has he dropped the ball big time here?

The promotion machine that is SA Labor has failed him big time IMO.

Every ad I see or hear is Liberal bashing, its so boring its not funny, what about believing in yourself and promoting what you have done for the state in the past few years? Or do they not believe in what they have achieved?

Liberal's are out there and promoting what they would do, no Labor bashing, they are focusing on themselves and IMO the public like this.

The public arent fools Rann, you cant win an election saying that the opposition arent "ready" - from your advertising I doubt you have ever been ready.

* I have no particular allegance to either party, although my MP is a life member of my cricket club so it makes the decision easy :)

I agree with you about the advertising, Dutchy.

It's been very poor and very negative.

There have been a couple of Labor positive ads promoting the naval contracts and Adelaide Oval redevelopment.

While the rest of their ads may be perceived as negative, I regard them as a response to the Liberals catchcry of 'Isobel Redmond is Ready' by pointing out Isobel's (and the Liberal Party's) shortcomings.

The most interesting ad I've seen is the City Dismantlers ads during Clipsal yesterday telling people 'vote for the future of motor sport in SA, vote Liberal'.

I notice the Libs started the Labor bashing last night and I thought "dont do it - stick with the positive messages"

Its a bit hard to sit there taking punches from the other side and not retaliate

Unfortunately, a lot of this stuff is planned and done months or weeks ahead - it is difficult to be nimble.

"Isobel is ready" was created in response to the Labor negative campaign, not the other way round. They knew Labor were going to go with the line that they weren't ready

I remember when Rann was first voted in (I wasn't quite voting age then) and I said to my old man that Rann would win because all of his TV adds were quite positive whilst the liberal adds were very negative. Whether that had an affect on the result or not I was too young to understatnd.

But, this campaign I have noticed the same trend similar to back then. As to whether it will have enough of an affect to get the Liberals over the line I'm not sure. Myself being in the seat of Goyder which is held by Stephen Griffiths, its good going to the polls knowing that my vote won't really have an affect on the election as Steve should win our seat pretty easily.

Yes I realise that they all count Donkey, just that being a liberal voter mine won't have an influence on the election as Griffiths will win the seat easily with or without my vote. Which electorate are you in now mate or are you still enrolled at your old folks residence.

It's poor form, but really, if anyone bases their vote on a TV ad they shouldn't be allowed to vote in the first place.

Typical Labour advertising......

Always play the man. It's getting very boring.....good to see the Libs focus on the positive side of things.

Labour should be ashamed of the ad's they are spinning out at the moment. Using misquote's and editing speeches by the Libs. Did they use a Pro-tool media editor to do it??

Labour ads say nothing of what they have done or what they are setting out to achieve in the next 4 years.

I think the ads will come to bite Labour them on the A**..... ;)

Sounds like every TV federal election ad campaign by the Libs when Howard was leader. Don't fool yourself they are both as bad as each other.

The Liberals have now started their next round of Rann bashing ads. Also, didn't one of the Liberal ads have to be removed because they had an error on it (same thing happened in 2006).

As for the claim that Labor ad's say nothing of what they have done, that's flat out wrong, here's proof - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SL0uATgNIiY

I've seen them a few times - been on since the writs were issued.

As for the fake newsreaders, they had to do that for Copyright reasons (well, according to LiberalNow, I mean AdelaideNow)

I started to read the Adelaide Now comments and immediately realised I shouldn't have bothered.

It was about 90% Liberal 'I hate Rann' stuff and when 2 or 3 Labor supporters came on, they were quickly decried as being party hacks :?

The other thing is the parrot mentality of the posters. I'd say at least 75% of the comments mentioned the word 'spin'.

Partisan hacks.

I also noted that there was much hilarity on here by one or two when the same typographical error appeared on 3 Labor posts from supposedly 3 different people. Well, that same error has occurred regularly on many Liberal posts. Obviously a site problem.

I wouldn't bother reading any of the crap on that website these days, loons the lot ofthem.
The Advertisers apparant leaning is quite obvious even for someone like me who is going to vote Liberal. Even subtle things like the photos they print of each candidate.
The saddest part of it is they probably do have a degree of persuasion over some morons.

Worst advert I've heard/seen is the one about Rann's stance on hard drugs saying something about taking the tough stance he's taken on Cocaine.

"Isobel Redmond's stance.... 'studies show that there are far worse drugs than ecstacy'"

They then have some bold type and deep voice saying "Ecstacy.... not a risk?"

Any nong could tell that it's not what she said. Talk about creative journalism.

The most annoying thing about any existing government is that it takes an election for them to come up with good ideas for the gullable public to swallow up. Water, health, transport......all have been problems previously, but now, when the election is on, we 'promise' to fix everything. Sheesh.

The loudest voices and those greatest in numbers have always come from people in support of a party that's not holding power, always has always will.
