Who will be the new speaker in the House of Assembly

Whilst Labor appear safe to form a majority government with the electorate of Hartley providing the valuable 24th seat, Labor will be praying to get Bright to get up to 25 seats.

With the government obliged to provide the speaker, a majority of 24 will be reduced to 23 on the floor with the appointment of a Labor member to the position.

If Labor end up with only 24 seats, the only real options open to them would seem to be Kris Hanna and Bob Such.

To appoint Hanna to the role would be like sleeping with the devil for them, so I wouldn't be surprised that Bob Such is invited to be the Speaker of the House. He has done it before, would be partial to the trappings on offer, and it would allow Labor to keep those vital 24 votes on the floor of the House.

They did the same with Peter Lewis however they cringed for every moment he was in the chair. Will they try to do the same this time around?

Any other thoughts on this?

What about Brock (Frome) or Pegler (Mt Gambier) if either get up?

I think Labor preferenced Pegler ahead of Perryman to keep Perryman on his toes.

Brock could be a chance being a regional member too - Labor may want to give an important job to a regional member based on regional results.

Otherwise, Such looms large

I can't see Labor appointing Kris Hanna - a lot of bad blood there, and he's already spoken out quite vehemently against Labor and their 'Kris Hanna is soft on crime' leaflets. They'll go with Bob Such.

Also there is no guarantees that Kris Hanna will get re-elected, the Libs ran a good campaign in his electorate, and if he drops behind the Liberal candidate in the postals, then the seat will ironically fall to Labor. If this occurs Labor will have 25 seats and be able to use one of their own members as speaker, without losing majority.

If that happens, I'd expect Snelling to keep the speaker position.

I would think Chloe Fox would get it now.
