Regarding Tony's recorded message about his preferred Queensland candidate being ignored by the party heavyweights up there, I wondered what the headline would have been if it was written by some of the conservative supporters on here
Just to be consistent, of course.

In the Liberal Party the local members of the party in the seat pick their candidate by voting.
It is thus not available as a reward for loyal friends put up by a party machine or faction, although anyone can nominate.
Anyone who tries to turn this democracy into a corrupt faction ridden oligarchy deserves to be rolled.

Psyber I reckon that headline is a bit long-winded and lacks a bit of punch.

Yes, "Abbott rolled!" might have done, and closed off much comment.
As I pointed out in my post the Liberal Party does not "appoint" candidates from a central faction deal.
For example, back in the mid 1990s, Alexander Downer was prepared to nominate me for the state seat of Heysen, once David Wotton retired, if I wanted it.
But his nomination would not have guaranteed I'd have won it, and he would not have been "rolled" had I stood and not won it.
In the Libs a nomination or an endorsement is just that, not a command to be obeyed by the local members.
