If the Independents don't choose anyone?

Just wondering what happens if the independent candidates make their decision and that decision is to back neither of the parties - who forms government?

Is it absolutely necessary for the party given power by the Governor to have the independents on side?

My feeling from at least one of the independents is that he wants to stay independent which makes me wonder if the others may not do the same also?

I reckon that a minority is a minority, no matter how big or small the minority is. If that happens, I think the GG will ask Gillard to test her mettle on the floor of the House. If Labor hold up, they are in Govt for as long as they can hold up. If not, the Coalition get a go and the same exercise is undertaken. If neither major party can hold the floor (ie withstand a vote of no confidence) then yes, back to the Polls I'd say.
