Used nuclear fuel is in storage at the nation’s nuclear energy facilities. Most plants store used fuel in steel-lined, concrete pools filled with water, which acts as a natural barrier for radiation. The water also keeps the fuel cool while radiation decays. The water itself does not leave the used fuel pool.

This is done prior to longer term waste storage in most cases to stabilize the waste, other facilities store it in this manner longer term.

I'm certainly no expert, but I believe it is a very useful tool for short term storage and long term stabilization.

You can easily pipe it anywhere though right? I assumed from your first post that you were saying you needed it for cooling

Correct, it can be piped anywhere. From what I've read though, it seems to be a sought after commodity ( water ) in both the production and storage process. As such, the remoteness of our outback, and the very, very dry arid land does not really lend itself to either. So, coastal locations would be a preference.

100km from port Augusta would be pretty remote and also close enough to water imo

The cooling ponds are short -term local storage at the reactor site prior to the vitrification for long term storage that I posted a link to on the previous page.
The longer term storage site does not need to be near water.

Reactors normally need to be near a water supply, but some newer models use other cooling methods

Land tax yay. The removal of stamp duty may assist in getting he housing market up and about

Not much comfort for those who have just paid stamp duty and get the double of land tax straight up.

I'n truth the land tax was already there, not sure of the figures but when you own enough land you get taxed accordingly already. Hence this is just an expansion of that to include everyone.

At least they are now being up front about it. At the moment we all pay land tax, it is just hidden as different names.

i was about to say, you cant really expect those other charges to be removed if they add a land tax...... actually, wasnt stamp duty supposed to be abolished with the introduction of the gst? they will probably end up doing both land tax and the stamp duty :(

I cant recall about land tax and the GST. But you could be right, mighy as well go with both lol.

On top of the "hidden" land taxes in water and council rates there is already land tax if you own over a certain amount. This change just makes it wide spread.

Love Jays work at the momemt. Knows when to hit the bullshit button and go stupid.

Seriously you smashed us with the ESL increase, looking at a land tax across the board and then on the other hand looking at bringing back that damn super-dupa super for pollies we got rid of years ago.

Well played, I tips my hat to your ability to imitate Marshall.
