Well if he's got a mole there's no point giving the mole away, is there?

Just thought it was funny, thats all.
I actually like Jay Weatherill, if he didn't have Koutsantonas beside him I reckon labor would be certainties.
Another funny story. My 18yr old daughter was sitting next to him in the One restaurant at Adelaide Oval for the Port/Crows game last year & for small talk she asked him what does he do for a job.

Funny and a good question!

With Mullighan and Malinauskas I think they have two better alternatives than Koutsantonis, but their factions have decided those moves and I'd rather see Mullighan with more control than Koutsantonis.

A pollie who sees that the majority of people disagree with his policy so changes his mind about the policy is a breath of fresh air to me. I'd rather that than one who will continually flog a dead horse eg bad policy like the other 2 parties do.

From my perspective as an friend to some former ALP state pollies I went to school with, a member of the Liberal Party, and an old acquaintance of Nick X, I get the impression that only major party total loyalists (or those of minor parties jealous of his capacity to attract middle ground support) want to attack Nick X.

Others, including some members of both major parties seem to be inclined to a support him as a breath of fresh air in an otherwise stale and rigidified political environment. The truth seems to be that he has all the loyalists scared about how their team will stand up at the election in March...

I haven't made up my mind yet, about which candidate I'll vote for in my electorate, despite my party membership, which surprised Lisa Vlahos and Vinny Ciccorello. whom I sat next to at a function a few days ago - Vinny said, "In our party you can be expelled if you don't vote the way the party directs."

(This evening I'll be at the legendary outgoing Member for Waite's home for drinks and we'll probably talk about it.)

He tends to serve Moet or some nice Brandy, and has promised me a ride in his TVR Chimaera once he is fully retired.

I really enjoy Tom Richardson's political writing.
Funnily, some of the views he mentions here reflect some that I've expressed about Xenophon in this thread:

I could understand you having that perspective, he's a former Lib after all. Speaking as someone who isn't a member of a major party (or minor party for that matter) I've always thought of Xenophon as low hanging fruit really an ambulance chaser and rank populist who is a bit of a political weather vane.

He's certainly an interesting phenomenon in regards to brand management I'll give him that. Even my elderly father is threatening to vote for him despite being a lifelong Labor voter. What are you voting for? Who knows? Who cares? But somehow he's convinced a lot of people he's not one of 'them' and that's good enough. Vote for a politician who isn't a 'politician'? He's as cunning as a shithouse rat.

I always liked his columns in the old Independent Weekly newspaper.

That's the most worrying part of that equation.

Well, the worrying part is people voting X just because he's not ALP or Lib, that's it.

I lost respect for Nick a few years ago when I told him how I thought we could best reduce problem pokie gambling. I told him that if we were to reduce the machines down to 5 lines at a time (rather than the 40 or 50 that some have now), get rid of the 'Free Games' features and make all machines 1c only machines,, that would greatly reduce the amount of time people spent on machines. His response to me was 'oh, but that would greatly reduce govt revenue... can't have that'. I told him I thought that was the whole point!!
Unfortunately, Nick is all huff and no puff... he never really wanted to see problem gambling reduced, and yet this was the cause he was first elected for!
