Are you suggesting that the Left are the Jedi and the Right the Sith R&B?

"Fear is the path to the dark side: fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering."

It is interesting to consider what we each see when we look at the same report.
I saw the bit underlined below as evidence of cock-eyed optimism, and support for the old statement that suggests that if you are not a Socialist in youth you have no heart, and if you are one later in life you have no head.
[Which fits with me voting for Gough Whitlam twice in 1972 and 1974, and joining the Liberal Party in the mid 1990s. ]
They also have smaller anterior cingulate, an area at the front of the brain associated with courage and looking on the bright side of life, than those from the opposite end of the political spectrum.

Perhaps I should have put two winks, Psyber :D

By the way, I've never agreed with the socialist heart when young quote. I've always thought it was just a lazy bit of nonsense.

Of course, you would.. ;) ;)
I got your wink - I should perhaps have included one with mine.
PS: I'm not having a serious go at you with the "of course" bit, but you come across to me as seriously committed to your socialist views, which I respect.
Mine were idealistic, and I still hold to some of them, but I feel I need to keep it balanced now that I am disillusioned with what happens when you trust unbalanced idealists with power.

No worries, Psyber.

I have to say I'm surprised you think I'm seriously committed to 'socialist' views. I'd say my politics are left-leaning, but fairly middle of the road. I'm certainly anti-racist and try to treat people as they come, without worrying about where they come from, but there's very little socialism left in Australia (except for primary producers and capitalist bankers ;) ).

If you can give me an example of any socialist views I've expressed, feel free.

I was going by overall impression, R&B, admittedly subjective.
I can't offhand recall specific examples and won't bother to search for them .
As I've said before, it is really just a matter or perspective.

I note you still can't give any examples, J041.

I tell you what, though, if I did the same for your posts, I could prove you're a long, long way further to the right than I am to the left 8) ;)

Comrade, there is no doubt you dress to the left, how far is purely conjecture though. :ympeace:

Is it socialism to be in favour of having Medicare?

Whitlam, Hawke, and Howard are on my list of those who believed in what they were doing, but needed restraining.
I think Fraser was propping up his farm and a half-hearted idealist, and Keating and Rudd were pure self-interested cynics, along with Snedden and McMahon.
There were idealists I liked in politics, like Jim Cairns and John Gorton.

I did actually

I think "Cogito ergo sum" applies here

Well, you didn't actually.

Nothing specific at all, just a lazy way out, excused with a Latin generality ;)

Then again, to you, anyone left of Genghis Khan is a socialist, so mainstream political thought equates with socialism. ;)

In Australian politics, socialism has been a dead parrot for a long time.

Not to worry, though, Jimmy, you can always find solace in the Tea Party over there. You're an ideal candidate :)

Anyway, Happy New Year to you and all the best.

Having seen Jamie Briggs bat in the F.U.C.C nets I can assure you lefties are more courageous.
