The issue again is that instead of working with be senate they are looking to use bully boy tactics only. They need to start trying to work with the senate.

After their criticism of the previous government for "selling-out to the Greens", they cannot be seen to be weak by negotiating

True, but this is different as the previous government were owned by the greens due to the beed for there votes to make government. You need to work with the independent senators to get these items through. This government refuses to do that and looks to the bully tactics straight up. What I'm simply saying is I think they need to consider aanother way.

Well, if I read it right, and excluded the world wars as extraordinary, it is the 2nd worst position after Keating, isn't it?

Definitely not if you compare it against GDP. Using the bottom graph, the gross debt which was inherited by the Abbott government was actually very low by Australian standards when compared against GDP. As stated in the article:

'The Australia Institute's Mr Richardson agreed. He told Fact Check: "All outgoing governments until about 40 years ago left outstanding government debt much larger as a share of GDP than the present government inherited."

However, it does mean that Tony Abbott was handed a debt/GDP position which was one of the best in Australia's history. Only Howard and Fraser have left lower Debt/GDP positions than what Abbott was handed.

Not sure we're looking at the same table because I see the second worst in 40 odd years
Only Keating (the self professed economic miracle man) outdid it
Interesting reading Steven Koukoulas who says the debt is not a problem, but then slams the Govt for an increase in debt
I'm not sure what to make of him

I am going on the Australian Institute's Mr. Richardson's comment, as well as the final graph. Yes, the second worst in 40 odd years, but better than any prior to that. We have only had four governments in the past forty years, making it the second best ever.

Cheers

Looking forward to the next budget now. I think most people are. It will be interesting to see when the uni reforms come back as well.

Im not sure threatening an election is going to help out here.

This will be qn interesting budget. The IMF have predicted some tough times ahead for the glonal economy. With China starting to slow and there growth looking at dipping under the 7% mark it seems to be the catalyst now for a drop in iron ore prices. This will hurt our mining sector. This will really hurt.

Basically we nees to reduce the government's expenditure without killing off our own economic growth. Good luck with that!

Didn't Abbott say they were going to stop the "waste" of the previous ALP Govt?

Why isn't Andrews a back-bencher now, after failing so badly? Hopefully Defence doesn't suffer a similar fate.

Cracked up laughing watching Mad As Hell last week when Micallef with a pic of Andrews behind him said "Here is a picture of Kevin Andrews taking human form".
