In Addiction: A disorder of choice Gene Heyman makes a case for drug addiction to be a result of natural processes involving voluntary (i.e., operant) behavior, specifically choice

That is a review of a book that is over ten years old and makes no account for the recent decade of neuroscience and animal models of addiction that support addiction as a compulsion or chronic disease and point to the demonstrated role of genetic or neurophysiological factors in addiction.

So. The link you supplied was an abstract from a book from 2012

Apologies, I thought it gave access to the full text. It is a neuroscience study - here is a link to the full study, complete with some very nice pictures:

Someone who has never had ice before, isn't addicted to ice.

Call me narrow minded, call me sheltered or ignorant or whatever term you come up with next, but I have yet to hear a good reason why these addicts should get a free pass for the choice they made when they first started taking the drug.

Oops, I liked the wrong comment lol
But, as you asked for it, hi narrow-minded one ;)

It is mind-boggling that mass-gatherings weren't banned yesterday and there has been no public health campaign. LNP spent $140mil of taxpayer money on a pre-election ad campaign, but have done nothing for COVID-19.

Morrison is bungling the COVID-19 response like he bungled the bushfire response. He is a smirking buffoon who will go down as our worst PM ever.

You certainly won't catch it at this weekend's Hillsong conference.

All Morrison’s fault.
He made the decision all by himself so Hillsong can go ahead

This Morrison Derangement Syndrome is hysterical

Chief MDS cheerleader PVO now saying how much he admires Ardern because “she shuts the borders”. NZ hasn’t shut its borders in any shape or form.
Not only that, he was calling Morrison racist for shutting out the Chinese but deleted the tweet when everybody else started doing it.
No wonder he was appointed to Ch10 and The Project - a show that has already been caught editing the truth.

The link supplied doesn't provide any explanation or justification for why Monday was the chosen day for suspending 500+ person events, Hillsong, rugby league, or otherwise.

We can only surmise why, but given Scotty's really close to the head of Hillsong (don't forget Morrison asked the if Mr Hillsong could also be invited to the Whitehouse), you can join the dots. It may not have been the sole reason, but I find hard to believe its wasn't a reason.

Here, I’ll help you

Key points:

Chief medical officer Brendan Murphy has recommended a ban on events with more than 500 people
The nation's leaders want non-essential events with more than 500 people to stop from Monday
Australians have also been urged against travelling overseas unless it is essential

All the Premiers must be part of Hillsong as well

I read somewhere else they did it from Monday to avoid Friday night panic.

Very poor decision making if true. Data out of China shows that even a 24 hour delay in social isolation response can result in a 40% transmission increase.

Still haven't closed the border to the US despite it being the source of most travel related COVID 19 cases in Aus. Should have announced that all schools to close and all non-essential business to close, but hasn't.

Morrison a smirking, bungling idiot.

+4 points is historically poor for the incumbent.

Come on, be a bit easy on my cousin Brendan; he is only stating what Morrison has asked him to say. His own view was that the ban should have been imposed on the Friday; ScoMo asked him to hold off for the weekend. The Premiers had no individual say in the decision either. According to Brendan, it was strictly a ScoMo directive.
Cheers
