SA Liberal Senator charged with shoplifting, assault

Postby Gozu » Sat Jul 23, 2011 1:20 am

THE political career of South Australian Liberal Mary Jo Fisher is in doubt after revelations the senator faces theft and assault charges over an alleged shoplifting incident.

It is alleged Senator Fisher attempted to take groceries valued at $92.92 from a Frewville Foodland store on December 15.

It is alleged that after police were contacted, Senator Fisher fled the store and assaulted a store security officer as she attempted to leave in her car.

Whilst the charges are pending should be made to stand down. If proven guilty, don't let the door hit you on the way out MJ.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

The ABC on Channel 24 suggested this is another MP with depression, like the ALP one who gets in fights in nightclubs.
The snippet of her little dance in Parliament made me wonder about mild Bipolar Spectrum Disorder, which may also apply to the ALP guy too.

These are common conditions:
8% of the population carry a genetic predisposition to depression, and about another 2% have a genetic predisposition to Bipolar Spectrum Disorder.
Shoplifting is a common symptom, as is drinking too much, or getting addicted to drugs.
[I'm not saying those conditions are the only causes of such behaviour.]

Enlightened magistrates have been known to initiate referral to a Psychiatrist before ruling on the case.

These conditions affect people in all walks of life, and I'm always a little surprised how many are not getting the effective treatment that is available for it, and has been for over 30 years.
I guess GPs don't notice mild cases unless the patient opens up to them, and the person tends to not want to admit what they see as a "weakness", even to their GP.

Yes, I agree with you, Psyber.

I hope she gets proper treatment and recovers.

It's always a shame to see this sort of thing happen.

Does that apply to the ALP guy who starts fights in pubs and clubs too?
Of course he has not been charged since he is a Minister in the ruling party..
I agree that any MP who is convicted of a crime should go - this one may not be convicted if there is a relevant medical factor.

The interesting thing with this is that it's been kept quiet for a long time.

Where's our Adelaide media?

If it was a Labor figure, I'd guess it wouldn't have been kept quiet for months.

Psyber, do you suspect Belinda Neal had similar medical issues?

I really don't know about her case as I was rather busy with other issues in my life at the time.
It has to be considered where impulsive or other "off the wall" behaviour shows up.

:?

I think the Adelaidse media gave Rann plenty over that, southee.

they went to town on him.

Then again, if you want to defend News Ltd as not being anti-Labor in Australia, I wish you luck ;)

Mate, this is the non-reporting of duly filed legal charges.

The Chantelois thing was a gossip item, no chanrges applicable.

Anyway, in the light of today's tragedies, let's call it a draw and move on?

Noticed a few news teams outside her office this morning waiting for her to roll up.
