Labor, Liberal, Greens, Democrats? Here's the place to discuss.

There won't be any change before the election ... they're going to give her the honour of taking the rap for the annihilation

i expect Billy boy to take the reign after the election and then as the following election looms large Kev will make another run. i cant see why Kev would want to be opposition leader for a full term

Gillard won't make it to the election.

If Rudd returns as PM, expect an avalanche of ads during the election campaign from the Liberals with soundbites of what Labor politicians have said in the past about him. (psychotic, megalomaniac etc etc)

Labor to go down in a screaming heap!

As things are right now, not only can Labor write off the next election, but the one after that looks nearly unwinnable too. If they bring in another PM mid term you can even start to think the one after that might be an easy win for the Liberals. It would just be too easy for the Liberals to point out the changes of leader during a term of government. If the Liberals can also stop the boats and bring the economy back into surplus they will own the high ground on just about all the most important issues.

Julia Gillard I anticipate will lead the party to the next election as nobody will want to take Labor to a losing election then take the long road to being PM by being in opposition for 6 years. Who was the last opposition leader to win office after 6 years as leader? Particularly with two election losses in that time. The only benefit I can come up with is that Kevin Rudd et al are ensuring Gillard is unable to continue on after the election and Rudd is then seen as the only person capable. To be honest, I don't see many other senior Labor figures with a chance.

A reference in small print on a the Yahoo7 page led me to this site: http://www.politifact.com.au/
A quick look through the detail behind some of its ratings suggests it is reasonably fair overall.
e.g. A tempered tick for Hockey and Shorten and a smack on the wrist for Gillard:

Although I make no bones about being a Labor voter, there are times I wish that Ms Gillard would put her brain into gear before opening the vocal chords. Her statements yesterday re gender issues and abortion did nobody in the party any favours whatsoever.
Think, Julia, think, pleaseeeeeeeeeeee!!
Cheers

Rumour is about that Malcolm Turnbull is about to make a play to become Leader of the Opposition prior to the election.

With the way some of our political journos have been working, those two posts constitute enough to launch a half hour news broadcast on leadership changes within the party.

My rumour btw is one that I just made up. However, that fully constitutes a rumour and, as Dogwatcher says, all it takes is one comment from absolutely anyone to send the media into a frenzy at the moment!!
