What's your Economic Situation?

Postby Gingernuts » Thu Nov 03, 2011 12:10 pm

Obviously it's a fairly personal topic so no pressure to vote, but I figured what with all the hot air on this board about the Australian economy it might be an interesting exercise to see what the actual state of the 'footysa' economy is like.

Far from a scientific study, but could make for some interesting discussion. :D

Making ends meet.....just.......

Been in my current job over 2 years. Only increases I've had are the tax cuts. Never had a performance review either.

Wife and one 12 month old daughter. (with a few medical issues)

Self Employed. Sole Trader.

Totally at the cross roads at present.

Turning over nowhere near as much in the last 3 years and fighting to get jobs.

Things out there have definately tightened up......I know some people on this board think everything is fantastic with the ecomomy and Gillard is a mastermind with ecomonic magagement. In my experience out there...it is not all good.

I have even taken up some subcontact work where I can to get by. (JUST!!!)

I really want a full time job now that pays a regular wage every week/fornight as with a young family now I think I really need that security.

I have found most of the jobs I am qualified for are all CASUAL.......personally I cant live my life like that. (Bank Managers hate you!!)

A FULL TIME position is very rare these days.

I am really feeling the pressure at the moment...more so that I ever have since I have been married for 6 years and Ms. Southee not working at present.

Its all on me now and some times it gets me really down as I do try so hard. :?
Is out of change.....thanks Cambridge Clarrie!!!

After having a 12 month contract last year, going back to relief teaching this year has been really tough. It pays well enough but there just isn't enough work going around, added on to that a bad year health wise means I really need to be careful about the next few months as I get probably 8-12+ weeks between pay checks, which in reality I think will be about 15.

Moderate income from shares and bank interest, but no mortgage, and low general expenses.
I'm not spending a lot on anything else as I have no dependent females. ;)

There will be minor deficit budgeting (against reserves) this year with overseas trips and new car.
I am looking at taking on some part time work to help the budget and fund the travelling.

Are there any tradies out there who are getting plenty of work at the moment?

I have a few tradie mates doing different trades and every single one of them is struggling at the moment, so I am a bit curious.

In my job I indirectly deal with these said trades. In the more experienced older blokes keep harping on about how tough it was in the late 80's/early 90's is nothing on today's shortage of work.

Hang in there lads because we surely have bottomed out.
