Tony Abbott.
I think Julia will keep the job (just) for now, and keep the seat warm for him.

what, no Liberals in the above poll? no option for any other candidate? personally i think Julia will win this "spill", but will lose the next election to the Libs (wether that is early, or at the end of the current term). Labor certainly arent doing themselves any favours at the moment...

If Julia wins this challenge, as I expect, she will be the same PM not the "next".
Hence, a Liberal can be the "next" PM and I expect it will be Tony Abbott as I don't think he will be challenged for the leadership.

My prediction is Rudd won't contest the challenge and Gillard will remain as PM. Unless something big comes out between now and Monday (who knows what Rudd's people might leak) Rudd just won't have the numbers. The right-wing powerbrokers control the numbers and given how many of Rudd's colleagues are coming out publicly to bag him it means said powerbrokers are remaining firmly behind Gillard.

However continued poor polling and Rudd going hammer & tongs behind the scenes to destabilise Gillard now on the backbench free of the FM-ship will eventually do enough to destroy Gillard's credibility and eventually she'll get the tap on the shoulder from the 'faceless men' and resign with Rudd drafted in as a last ditch attempt to win the next election but in all reality really just trying to save the furniture.

And then we can look forward to 18 months of The Australian printing weekly stories of a Liberal Leadership spill, Turnbull vs Abbott

Not sticking up for our shithouse partisan media but I remember reading plenty of articles about the Howard v Costello rumblings at the time.

Who cares what The Australian says? I don't know a single person who reads that hard-right rag and despite being a national newspaper has even less readers nation wide than The Advertiser does.

Exactly. It'll be another 18 months of fabricated rumours instead of publishing anything of substance.

Technically tho, when you call a spill the prime ministership is vacant, so the winner of the spill will be the next leader. I majored in pendantic BTW
