Never said that, talk about clutching at straws!

Finnigan is in the SA state political thread not some misc thread like you tried to claim.

I find it amusing she steals $70 of groceries and gets her own thread... whilst an MP is up on child porn charges and it get put into a misc thread

I find it amusing that it isn't obvious that the choice of whether to give it its own thread or not is dictated by the aims of the original poster, and how much prominence they want to give it.

Are you guys seriously this desperate? Up until last week Finnigan couldn't even be named and from memory I remember 1 or 2 threads being deleted at the time the story broke. As he's an SA state pollie I put it in the dedicated thread and given the lack of responses was clearly justified in doing so.

Mary Jo while from SA is a Federal pollie (I know it's very difficult to understand) and given we're now 5 pages in to this thread it by definition warranted it's own thread. Keep in mind R&B who was here long before I used to create new threads for most stories involving pollies (hence why I thought the 'miscellaneous debris' thread might be a good idea for stories that didn't really warrant their own threads) and I lost count of how many threads 'straight talker' started about Craig Thomson. But now we're seemingly getting a little bit precious oh that's right she's a Liberal pollie

And before one of you lot arcs up with a "but yeah what about Finnigan" whinge again keep in mind who it was that posted some of his backstory too. I'm interested in politics but party hacks of any variety shit me to tears.

No not desperate, nor serious, in my case anyway - just amused as stated...

I agree with you about the Miscellaneous Debris thread, but I thought this one was pretty minor stuff, too, because thousands of people with depressive illness commit shoplifting offences every year.
It is a common symptom described in literature sometimes as bringing down punishment for being "bad", though I think in some cases it is less that and more simply impaired impulse control due to the brain chemistry imbalance. That pattern is so well documented that most good Magistrates pick it up themselves and initiate medical opinion if the defending lawyers have been too sloppy to do so.

Giving it its own thread whipped up more activity than it deserved, as such a minor and common event.
It would have attracted little attention if she had not been an politician and if some people were not already looking for a diversion from the bad publicity the ALP was getting at the time.

R&B was one of those who used that technique frequently.

Yep. She played the "Rich White Majority" card like a boss. Wish I could afford her defense team. I'd be robbin' banks.

Why would you like to revert to violence and rob banks? Have you considered the effect your thuggish behaviour would have on the staff? Why wouldn't you go out and earn an honest living like the rest of us?

Yes - at the time of her meltdown it was reported that her meds were being changed when she had the flare ups.
Such flare ups occurring during the transition from one type of medication to another is not uncommon.

No they are not but she probably needed to be more careful during this period. Her doctor should have been aware of this not uncommon side effect.

She is. Putting aside the legal defences her team used to get out of the assault & thefts she was on Kitchen Cabinet a few weeks ago and came across as still more than a little eccentric.

I've always favoured doing such changeovers in hospital under observation, but that usually requires adequate private cover and a willing patient - and people when unstable are less likely to be willing. (Public hospitals are usually too short of beds to make them available for the purpose.)

I ran into Mary Jo again at Jamie Briggs' 2015 Christmas do on December 20th.
She seems to be quite stable now.

What was more interesting was that I took Martin Hamilton-Smith's sister along as my guest.
Jamie struggled a bit at the point of introduction but recovered and talked to her civilly.
(That was before his personal issue came out so we didn't discuss that.)

May be she didn't have the piercing eyes that he seems to be so fond of.
