Some how I feel that Romney will just get in.

The people of the USA are a pretty poor and uneducated lot, although those who bother to vote have been hit pretty hard by the current Administration with the Afghanistan issues.

Just the opening Romney needs, dont see him doing much better really.

The issue as I see it is they have to motivate the Christian Right to vote for a Mormon - Romney, last time I checked the Southern Baptist Convention had plenty to say about Romney's Denomination the Church of Latter Day Saints (Mormons) and none of its very nice! I don't think Romney will be able to motivate enough of those people to vote for him to win. Unlike Australia no one has to vote and I suspect that Romney will struggle to get the numbers out there on election day, whereas I think there are enough people that voted for Obama last time that will do so again and for the same reasons they voted for him last time.

Obama.

Loved this pic shown on Insiders today re: Romney's "binders full of women" comment.

Romney for mine, though Obama has massive support from the left wing free to air media. Your average American has had enough of socialism and wealth distribution by stealth and I think enough of them will vote not so much for Romney but against the current failing system.

The racist vote will be high too. The amount of people who will vote for Obama just because of the colour of his skin will be high. The amount of people voting for Romney just because of the colour of his skin will be as high

Racism is alive and well on the USofA

True, though from the media coverage that I've seen if the debates it seems voting for someone based on skin colour is a perfectly acceptable thing to do

It's not really racist, it's just that 'voting is now cultural, rather than economic or interest-derived'. Brilliant article by Rundle elaborating on that flaw:

Supposedly Guy Rundle's musings on the 2012 election campaign trail are going to be cobbled together and released in ebook form.

The 'Down To The Crossroads' paperback by him of all the 2008 election stuff for Crikey was a great read.

I'm just reading "Race of a Lifetime" by John Heilemann & Mark Halperin

Only read the first 4 chapters this weekend - really interesting stuff about the Clinton "machine"

US politics is very different to Australia
If the Prez doesn't also control Congress, he's constantly working with a minority government

Correct!
They are saying now that Romney could win the most number of votes (first past the post) but Obama could pick up more delegates and therefore remain in power.

Centrebet market for the Presidency:

Democrats $1.38
Republicans $3.00
