We don't trust you to spend the money so we'll spend it where you think we should

Money taken away from families for their own self interest groups.

Political suicide in Australia to neglect the middle class, they've just committed it.

Don't talk about the Treasurer of the Year 2011 like that.....

Good response early by Hockey I thought. Seemed less gleeful like a Shadow Treasurer normally is when a bad budget comes out and more saddened and disappointed. Probably easy to do when the budget is going to do all the talking and he's already measured up the chair for his office in September, but just those few sentences gave me the impression he knew his stuff and the direction he wanted to take things. I'd not really heard that from him as yet.

They were already dead.

About time we stopped pandering to the self-entitlement of the middle class anyway.

Given the circumstances that the ALP now find themselves in, that involve the previous decisions they made that have led to it, Swan has probably done as good a job as he can with what he has to work with.

Swans problem with selling the budget is his previous promises of budget surpluses and how previous budgets would created a further 500 000 jobs on top of the existing economy and so on. No one is going to take 10 year plans seriously from him as a result and I think he knows that anyway.

I think Joe Hockeys initial response was measured and appropriate. He too will have the same constraints initially in terms of the numbers that he has to work with to bring the nation back to surplus. Will be interesting to hear his response in full and what he will be doing differently.

I wouldn't hold my breathe waiting for it to materialise, even in 2023.
I think they secretly share the Greens view that no amount of debt is unacceptable. .
