Talk on any country footy league or club from the SA Country area

Last I heard the salary cap was set by the SANFL at $35,000, if indeed it is $17,000 i would suggest their are many clubs blowing this apart. Remember the cap includes Best player incentives, coach payments, Vouchers and any player payments, or gifts, wether directly or indirectly (Sponsors) from the club.

Let's just say that I think their chances of playing finals will be pretty slim if they can't. That's nothing against Echunga but going on the results between the teams last year and the fact that Echunga has picked up some quality players but so has Maccy.

Dr Football, I agree that $17,000 does seem a bit low but I am almost certain that the $35,000 figure is for Central division teams and it is a lesser amount for the Country division. Sure that there would be other posters (SpiderK?) on here who would know the correct figures.

Big Weekend of matches:
Central: Loby to beat Hahndorf, Mt Lofty to beat Onkas, Bridgey to beat Ironbank and Blackwood to beat Mt Barker
Country: Kangarilla to beat Gumeracha, Birdwood to beat Eagles, Echunga over Maccy, Meadows to beat the Brookers, and Torrens Valley to beat Nairne.
Some interesting match ups, with former crows players Sudjai Cook and Trent Ormand-Allen to go head to head on the weekend, should be entertaining.

ODB, will be a very interesting game to watch. Would love to get a match review from you. Can you tell us who the name recruits are for each club. You have said in an earlier pot that Brooke Fogden is at maccy, and possibly Highett, Ridge have joined mully at echunga. i would think that a top 5 would be (not in any order) torrens valley, nairne, meadows, blackwood, kangarilla and possibly kersbrook. that, theoretically would have maccy 7th. do you think lallard has the personel to get any higher than that. if he does, i can only see them fighting for 5th with kersbrook and blackwood. havent heard if kersbrook have picked any players of value up, and we all know that blackwood have lost quite a few. will be very interesting!!

Given recent developments I am confident that Maccy will make the 5 but I am not willing to give exact placings in case I do end up playing (don't want to give anyone ammunition if this is read), if they'll have me of course

Great to read all of this - I had no idea there were so many Hills fans out there!!!

hillsrider - do we know each other? I have a feeling I know who you are and suspect you know me too. Flick me a PM if you like.

ORD - your game gave me the hardest time for the tips!!! Actually, I think Maccy are more than capable of taking this one out, but the second half wasn't brilliant against an albeit very improved Meadows last week. Callington's second half was woeful against Echunga, so maybe we are reading more into Echunga's form than warranted. Still suspect top 5 for them, but today will answer many questions for them. Country tips were otherwise fairly clear cut this week - the Eagles need many, many more hard weeks on the track, as flashy first halves won't win them too many games. How did Abraham, McMurtrie and P. Kleeman look last week, ORD, being all ex-Milang boys?

Nothing to change my prediction of top 3 for Kangarilla. To be able to have two of the Thorpe boys running around in the 2's shows their depth. Garry Hughes will be breathing a big sigh of relief after that one.

For what it's worth, my top 5 - before the season started - was Torrens Valley, Kangarilla, Blackwood, Meadows, Echunga. Can NEVER discount the Brookers though, and they could well come back to haunt me.

Think they are definitely capable of finishing in front of a couple of those but I suppose time will tell.
Don't know if you were at the game on Saturday Spider but I felt that they certainly could have played much better than they did.

no worries, Kangarilla won by 141 points over Gumeracha so the Lions and Roos look the teams to beat.
