I was going to be notified when they were available for sale, but I haven't heard anything as yet. I was due for printing in August so hopefully it's on track and it would come out around about September ... fingers crossed!

I first heard of the renewed edition last year sometime, the author was seeking information from various places around the state, but yeah, it got pushed to the back of my schedule and i never got on top of it.
I hope he found someone who could help him....

I was e-mailed today!

The book is expected to arrive from the printers on 3rd August. It will cost $45 but I don't know the postage charges for SA.

You can contact the author:
John Gascoyne
6 Hambidge Street
Thevenard SA 5690

I am seeing if I am allowed to add an e-mail address here as well.

What a great book! Cannot recommend it enough. Very good read and well worth the money. Some of the info in the book is amazing. It would have been great to see some of these players play. Any country footy fan will love this book. Thanks very much John Gascoyne for the great read and the large number of hours put into the research.

I received it in the mail today ... it is a great piece of work by John. A job well done!

I feel sorry for Ted Miller of Penong, who was the Mail Medal runner-up five times in the Far West League between 1953 and 1959 ... a bit stiff!

There were 2000 in the original print run in 1996 and they were gone in a matter of weeks. I would assume a similar number were done this time around, so I'd say that you better get in and get a copy. I lent the last edition out and it remains borrowed by some scoundrel :axe: - this edition won't leave my house!

For those who haven't seen the 1996 version, the new one - "The Mail Medal 1933-2006" - highlights the three placegetters in the Mail Medal for each season (and gives others like the Whillas Medal in the RFL), a short history of the competitions mainly consisting of describing who the competing clubs have been and then tells the stories of some of the medallists over the years. I'm pretty sure in saying that every competition is included so it is a great resource. =D>

If you are considering getting it, drop an e-mail or write a letter to the author (the address is above) because if you miss out I'd say that you may have to wait 10 more years ... of course, that is if there is to be a "Volume 3".
