wallfried and jordan are two of the biggest wasted talents going around in football. wallfried has plaed at a few clubs and seems to have burnt a few bridges in doing so. if he put as much effort into their football as he does into chasing tail he'd go alright. commitment is questionable... rhys jordan semi stood out in an ordinary callington side. couldnt crack the a grade at kangy and went walkabout a bit but is a pretty good guy

They can both play footy though at a higher level then Karoonda in my opinion. Now im not bagging the league or bagging anyone who plays in it, i just think these two boys were playing some decent football two years ago and could still be doing so in a different environment.

I cant wait to see these guys run around in the black and white. By all reports they should go allrite the smelt has done his homework on getting these guys to karoonda even tho some people are not happy with them playing at karoonda but stiff S**T thats footy.with a couple still to sign the smelt express side is looking the goods will be travling up to karoonda to have a look and to see how they go and yes i am getting on the smelt express train all abored LOL LOL LOL

After watching training at Karoonda the clean skills from some of the "locals" (last years players) makes me wonder why they werent more successful last year.
I think comments about where guys should playing a higher level, should be left to guys that have played in that league. As only they can be a true judge of their competition. As you know we/you have never played in it.
There have been players that have gone from Karoonda to A Grade a1 amatures from what i have heard so standard must be ok,
IMO good players addapt at any level.
This comment insinuates the standard of football will drop by these players due playing at Karoonda
But i think it will increase Due to the recruiting comming from four different strong leagues. with everyone there to climb the SAME mountain together!
IMO any level of footy can be reached you only get out what you put in!
AS for 1250 he must be pissed at these guys for taking his spot in the team!LOL

I must say that lately the Rumours flying around about some of the players who creamy has approached are sounding alittle desperate. Good on him for the sheer numbers he seems to have created, but there are some question marks about the long term investments of these players. Heard he has approached B grader after B grader from the RMFL & offered amounts that would be hard to refuse. Now I understand that the Mallee is not as strong as the RMFL & some of the players would be handy pickups but to pay them $200 plus (allegedly) is overstating their ability.
Karoonda needs every player, but at what price & for how long? The strange thing is they have a heap of kids playing at Mannum who haven't been approached with the same vigour ($$$) as their new recruits but would be better players then some of them & possibly long term players. Is this the "we dont pay our locals" approach. If so then the club will have some answering to do in the near future, when the rest are gone and there is nothing left.
Not saying the new guys wont be long term, however, do know of 2 or 3 blokes who have been spoken to, who are either recently retired or on their last legs as footballers. Great for this year but what about the next 4???

Anyway good luck Maggies, I really do hope its not a case of Winning a flag but losing a club.

Great Post goldberg and id have to say i agree with you.
I think its sensational that smelty has put so much time and effort into finding these players and yes they are decent, but it comes back to the locals in the future and how long the recruits may or may not stick around..I suppose the positive out of his recruitments is that most of them are young and DO have some years left in them which hopefully entises them to stick around and help build up the club. I have no doubt that smelty will be a great coach, Karoonda just need these young bucks to stick around for a few years.

I don't know much of the B grader recruiting, but I'm aware that the Karoonda club runs a busload of kids down for their junior grades from a nearby town (Mannum, Tailem??) I think it's Mannum.

I believe that has been quite successful to date.

the way i see it is that its not the footy circuit to keep the players there, i believe that we do have the best social scene going around and this entices everyone to stay back keep the club atmosphere going and wanting to come back, speakin to other players on game day telling them about offield activities they all seemed impressed and said it beat there club

so if the social scene keeps kicking then the club should be fine for years to come

hardly... i just think people with that type of ability should better utilise it. i dont have a problem with people coming to the club, training hard and proving themselves to get a game. they did that and one of them got a premiership out of it!

and the only thing the previous comment insinuates is that their football may not improve at the same rate if they play at a standard that is below their level. coming from average football stocks myself its frustrating to see someone with so much potential not reach it

solid hit out last night from what ive heard,with a little bit of competetive work and lots of energetic drills chinner, pake, knights all trained the house down and new recruits were good,showed some ability and seemed to enjoy themselves, good to see it all starting to come together, still would be nice to get some more on the track though.
