R the wheekls falling off at cally???

4 clearances out this week including Jai mcMurtie..pretty disappointing..

Is this fair dinkum BF? I did say I would stick by my earlier predictions that Cally would not survive the season, but Jai? Not good! Been there since he was a little tacker. Trouble is that Cally have been playing fat and slow players in the backlines, hence conceding megagoals. So kids like Jai ain't getting a kick up forward, learning nothing, losing fitness, getting cold and getting sick of the whole deal. Who are the others BF?

PS Just had a look at the clearances BF. Don't know most of the others. But I guess if the hearts and souls of the club like Jai say 'enough' then it is fair to say it could all be over. It's been coming for a while and many gave it their best shot. Enough said.

Is it an AFL record?

Considering it was played in the Hills Football League, then probably not ;)

Think there have been instances of teams kicking 95-100 goals in senior footy, so is probably not quite an Australian Rules record.

I know it's a South Australian record, and a record that Port Elliot no longer has against its' name. Victor Harbor kicked 72.35 (467) against them in 1996 I think. Ross Gibbs kicked 32 of them.

The score today re Cally and Kersbrook is incredibly sad for Hills football and for all at the Eagles who have tried so hard to keep it al going. Full points to Cally for attempting to make it all happen and giving it their very best shot. Sometimes dedication just isn't enough. :(

The cally score is a poor reflection on the HFL board and there unwillingness to make the hard decisions.

Surely cally could slot into the C Grade.. the HFL could shedule c grade games down there etc etc..then the cally club would have some income and could rebuild if this possible.

Im sorry..but tough decisions have to be made..

How would the HFl fair is some young lad got seriosly injurred in one these blowouts..there must be a duty of care by the HFl in this situation.

This is very sad to watch. I played at Callington from their very first match against Eastern Rangers in 1995, was there from the first training session and was at the club from the highs of the finals in 1998 to the depths when getting beaten by 50 goals in successive weeks later on. The club never forfeited a grade, and always had so much heart and determination. Through so many great times to the really hard times, there was always guts and spirit there.

To read of some of the departures, of dedicated kids who have given their all for the cause like Jai McMurtrie, since they were very young, is really hard to see. A club that played an enormous part in my life for many years involved in Hills Football and if this is the end for them, then it will be with a really heavy heart that I see it end.

Is it just me... or is anyone else a little surprised roger James kicked 23 goals today? I would've thought the bloke has achieved enough at AFL level he wouldn't need to stand at full forward and kick goals all day. I would've let some young bloke have the thrill of his life by kicking his first bag of 10 or let a full back have a go? I could be wrong, maybe he had them all by 1/4 time??, but did seem odd to me.

Is this is for Cally ?? Surely after that it has to be a hard ask to back up. I actually enjoy going up there, usually warm, great oval and people always welcoming the opposition in for a drink afterwards. They did try very hard and for that they should be commended.

On a happier note...... GO YOU GUMMERS !!! :D More wins in one season that the last 3.

MM, you are spot on with that comment. Right from their beginning, they were always going to become the 'whipping boys' of the competion and it is very sad.
This sort of result does nothing for football at any level in any league!

Another interesting score for Maccy, I wonder what all the recruits might be thinking, looks like a long, cold winter ahead and a long way to drive to lose.

Morgan in the Mid Murray have had similar score lines so far to Callington and Maccy and if they fall over at seasons end the other clubs will need somewhere to go. Maybe the time has come to create a third div hills comp as mentioned, but with netball following the footy as that is what the Mid Murray clubs would need. Might be the answer to Callingtons woes!

A 3 division comp was suggested two years ago in letters to the editor of the courier and to the editor of the HFL budget, but the President of the HFL, MR Lamshed refuted such suggestions and said it would never happen. I wonder what his views are now?

Just for interests sake, what were the quarter-by-quarter scores?

Not good for footy, and as some have said, a disgrace it has come to this.

On the other hand, as much as you like to beat them, good to see Gumeracha being competitive and winning a few games. Have they ever beaten Meadows since Meadows have been back in the Hills, or for that matter ever?
