EP Sport - back with a vengeance

Talk on any country footy league or club from the SA Country area

Postby stan » Wed Apr 19, 2006 11:27 am

Perhaps in lincoln you could merge the two leagues and have two divisions. Now i know you will still have the same number of teams that you play against, but this way the better teams will play against each other and the lesser teams play each other. Now thats just a thought, and i dont really know much about the football up there, i just thought i would share the idea.

Some would have to merge, or risk folding. I can see the latter being inevitable for some lower EP clubs anyway so they'd need to get on board. If you look at Yorke Peninsula and other regional areas some current sides are now made up of three clubs. How we have gone this long is good, but our standard compared to these merged competitions would be well down.

Go Dizzy, you champion!!

Yep, 2 or 3 sides merging would not be out of the question. It can't be sustained and still have a decent level of competition, the way it is.
And it's not just because some clubs have done well to remain strong, it's just the weaker ones won't catch up.

Meeting should be abandoned at PL, 5 out of the 8 races will be NTD. Is it a Penong meeting at Port Lincoln. Should be cancelled and just proves the point we have too many meetings. Half the horses should have been in the paddock months ago. Are we all going to back Rodeto again, I heard Jason Lyon will be riding it? Can anyone confirm why the axe isn't aboard?

As we draw closer to the first game it seems as if Mallees will have to forfiet the B grade unless something drastically happens, Bostons and Souths are short on numbers aswell.

The Tasman CC will unvail their premiership flag at the Premiership dinner this weekend, can someone hold onto it so in future we can confirm that they have won a premiership and it is not a myth or at least take a photo.

WHO COULD BE BOTHERED TRAVELLING EVERY SECOND WEEK, IF MY U/10 KID HAD TO TRAVEL TO UNGARRA OR ANYWHERE MORE THAN 10 MIN DRIVE, HE WOULDNT PLAY. JUNIOR NUMBERS WOULD TOTALLY DROP OFF, IT IS IMPERATIVE WE KEEP THE PLFL TOGETHER.
WANGARY TWICE A YEAR IS BAD ENOUGH. IT WOULDNT WORK. STOP DREAMING!

Yes OL numbers are extremly light on. But it has been another succesful season for the PLRC and they deserve lots of credit for the way they run the operation with very litle outside assistance.
Numbers have dropped off due to the population and amount of horses, race dates will ba looked at after the season. Axon has been replaced but only coz horse may be suited to a senior rider.
Also LS will be fine with football numbers in the Bs, no concern there..... wcp I never stated we didnt have much up the sleeve... we will be very competative and could be the suprise packet this season... good luck to the boys!

That juniors thing is a good point though.
Then again, some of those juniors may be playing in another guernsey in a few years, because their club can't survive.

Nah your right RM, let's leave it as is. Bostons can remain as the percentage builder and after my 3rd reconstruction and 40th birthday I'll still be able to get 5 or so against them. Either Waybacks or MR will be in every A grade GF and B grade can be 12 a side with 4x12 minute quarters. GF will also be a 4 team comp after EU fold and Lock push north. Sounds good to me :?

footnote : considering PL is in the country the fact that the 'city' born and bred Lincolnites can't get over Winters Hill is truly embarrasing.

WCP - a few valid points...in fact, think they all were.
Mind you, perhaps it's up to the not-so-strong clubs to push for something. Most clubs have ups and downs results-wise. But if it's a numbers thing, then it's a whole league problem.
But I have been in weaker clubs, pecentage boosters, and they came good. Maybe it's just that part of the whole cycle for some of them.

I'm happy to be wrong, in fact I hope I am. Currently though the league is sick, crowds are as low as they have ever been. It's unusual to get a tip wrong in PL or GF, that's the problem!! You have a fair idea on the way to the game what's going to happen. I want my son to have a decent league to play in so I can, like my farja before me, watch my boy play footy in a good comp!!

I'm your FARJA! Classic.
I reckon last year's PL top 4 games were interesting, other than when Mallees belted everyone, til GF DAY!
The other 3 shared spoils a lot of the time.
But when certain players went missing it was pretty obvious who would win what games, even in the top half.
Depth??

I think what is happening in PLFL is reflected in most other country leagues. Too much footy on TV going head to head with the local games, poor or inedequate facilities (until this year) to entice patrons to the game. Add that this year with the cost of fuel and less and less people will go to the footy...even tho it only costs 3 bucks....not sure how you gauge the 'poor' state of the competition wcp and its effect on crowd numbers. Reckon that last years comp. (except for tigers) was the most even it has ever been. Premiers came from 4th and only cemented a final berth late in the year....and almost every year there is a 'wood duck' in the draw.
On the facility point, what effect do you think the lack 'viewing' car parking at Ravendale will have this year, in particular on the older spectators? Definately think that the removal of the grandstand at centenary had an effect...

Maybe this will be counteracted by the older spectators jumping out of their cars and into the elevator in the new clubrooms to head upstairs and watch from the comfort of indoors.
