Association footy
I myself rooster enjoy association footy its one of the most respected and exciting games anybody could ever play, playing alongside some of the best players in the league that you have full respect for off the field. As for the way the squad is selected, i have played in different leagues and also played association footy in another association before. The way that squad was picked is the same principal, they have the board pick the squad then the coaches are to tell the players who are picked then ask if they are available, then the coaches would go back to the league and say these players are available these ones arnt and these players would love to play. From that the squad was picked, wonderful idea, you end up with a team of blokes that absolutely want to represent your league. If you say you are available and pull out then you get penalised. Great idea keeps everyone happy and has only those interested playing.

Whether or not what you say is true can only be seen in a couple of weeks. Regardless all the more reason to play Joel as he can run the ball and take blokes out as well. Rumor has it, it is up to him whether or not he plays. Coming back from a serious injury they have left it in his hands. Knowing him he will make himself available even if he is only 70%. But 70% is probably enough against some of these other areas which is a credit to the APFL and the standard of competition they have.

Joel Wilson if available would be a dead cert if I was picking the side, a great inside player who can kick you a couple of goals.

The assoc. side should be picked on form from this year. Just because a guy becomes available now and who may have been good in the past doesnt warrant automatic selection! What kind of message does that send out to players?

You pick from the best available, and from players who have done the job in the past, Joel is in that catergory.

Hummocks - The eagles to fly back into form with Joel wilson to kick a lazy 6!!
Two Wells - need the win to stay in touch with the pack. Watts to power the team.
Virgina - is it true that mallala are 'resting' players?? dyda to find some form in the paddock and kick 5!!.[/quote]

I dont believe they are resting players. The guys who are not out there today have legitimate injuries, Mallala are very lucky that they will have a week off next week. Todays game aganist the rams will be an interesting one, i dont reckon it will be as easy as most people would assume. A few out the pies and rams should be seething at the criticism they have copped recently so you would hope they show a bit of hunger and have a real crack today.

Tip:
Mallala to beat virginia by 29pts with a few late goals blowing it out!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hummocks by 69 pts - Hamley are in real trouble i believe!!!

Balaklava to beat TW by 2 points in a thriller!!!!!!!!

Longies boys will be pissed by half time somewhere: Can party those lads!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah thats correct, you pick the best players IN FORM that are available. Assoc. sides are there to reward players in good form at that time for their efforts. There are always going to be new players coming through every year. You would have to assume hed be underdone for starters, and i dont believe someone should not be selected to make way when they have done everything right. If a spot opens up, there would obviously be a strong consideration for him, which would make a handy addition. Im sure the selectors will make the right decisions.

Ps how do these blokes get round playing, i mean are they def injured (apart from early) or can they shrug off playing that easily?

You question the injuries of everyone but 'his greatness' early!! (those b&w colours showing there!) :D

Its easy to get off!! Just dont play the week before or after association.
eg.
Reid (not playing this week)
CCC (hasnt played for a week or so)

- As far as i have heard APFL has some of the toughest rules in regards to assoc (tougher again this year). If you dont make your self available (and havent missed the game before or dont miss the game after assoc.) you will face suspension (no ifs or buts).

BUT just like the balak runner got off (they always seem to get off!!) some people will fight the system.
there are laws in australia (criminal laws) that dont apply in this league eg indecent exposure, assult causing bodily harm and racial vilification!!!!! the members on the judical panel should at all times abide by the writen laws of the constitution and where precidence has been set they are obliged to follow suit.

the state country side in which Joel was best this year was played before the start of the season so how do you justify form on that basis. Furthermore it shows that he can play good football despite an extended break. Would you overlook Shane Warne to play in the Australian cricket side if he had missed 3 games? (prior to his retirment of course!!). Anyway, he may not play so no point worrying about it too much.
Other than the Hummocks game, there seemed to be some good hit outs on the weekend. Are Balak really a chance to miss finals after playing in GF last year or will Two Wells faulter??

Two Wells will faulter!! Thats my tip, balak will only get stronger from here on in with key players to come back, and the youth of tw may bring some inconsistency to their form.

The shane warne call is an absolute barry crocker mate, like comparing fire and water. We could not expect joel as good as he is to play at his best this week after 6 weeks off.

Its bloody farcical this association stuff. Theres two standards, the apfl expects every player in the league(170 approx) not to plan anything for the long weekend in june every year. What a joke.
All it is about is ensuring that the head honchos of the apfl can walk into sanfl country footy meetings with their bloody chest out looking like king d#*k because we were the strongest team at the carnival. Lets be honest, if the apfl looses this carnival to yorkes or barossa who really cares. Honestly!!!!!

a couple of things Swampy, I dont know Who else would be coming back in for Balak, they had all three Evans boys playing, they had a kid from the eagles, Walker, Parker, Lamond, Mcmillan Levi and Catford all played i'm not sure they would have anyone coming into that side.
And you know i'm gonna go in to bat for my beloved Roosters, they had a couple of keys players out, had a couple of young WWT Eagles in and were playing an ordinary brand of football. Youth brings inconsistency it's true but the Cocks are crowing at present!! :)

They other thing is about Representative footy. there's more at stake then just the Administration gloating. There's creditbility in this league. For a long time this league has been looked at like one of the worst. With players like Hollitt, Walker, the Wilsons just to name a few in this comp and having been here for a while these players demand respect and deserve a lot of credit for what they have done for this league just by playing and having people talk about them.
We as supporters and past players of this league should be trying to get this league to a level equal or better than most country leagues around the place.

So to answer you last question, I care and the 25 blokes selected care and anyone who loves their APFL club should care.

Fair call there on all points, Rooster and its great that you feel this strongly about the league. I realise the importance of having a good reputation as a league, but its not the quality of your best 25 that has given this league it reputation, its been the players 13-21 of most teams (lack of depth of quality) that has contirbuted to the reputation. Your dead right that winning these carnivals may make everyone stand back and force them to realise the quality of players in this league, however unfortunately this is not the issue detracting from our reputation. However realistically its prob the only way to promote the league.
I just have a chip on my shoulder about forcing players to play!!!

As for the peckers, i apologise i was falsly told this by a source from balak which is typical!! I really hope tw are there in sept over balak, believe me!!! Cant stand them.

Good to see Joel kicking some goals on the weekend. Few players will start dreading the fact that he is back when they line up on him!!!

Also another close game at Two Wells!

Yeah i know, i get a bit heated about Rep Footy, and i guess my enthusiasm for inter league matches get the better of me.

the 13-21 players are the strenght of many sides, and some clubs B-grade can testify to the talent pool that is around the place.

any way i'll be making the trip up on saturday for the carny.
Here's my squad, take it or leave it (and all due respect to any players missed out, its only mine and who am i?)

FWD: B.Watts W.Serle R.Montgomerie.
CHF: S.Buss H.Walker. R.Francis.
Cntr: L.Allmond S.Broad S.Jericho
CHB: S.Mcintyre C.Oliver B.Valentine.
B: J.Earl J.Evans L.Whitwell
1st R: J.Lowe J.Hollitt J.Wilson
2nd R: H.Walker S.Buss R.Reid. not that you may need one but for the rotation through the midfield
inter: D.Ciccolella. R.Reid C.Oliver S.Braham.

Hey guys new fella on board and most of you know who i am, I am not going to hide behind a ficticious name so i can offend someone.

Will put all your minds at ease fellas. I will not be taking the field Satdy as only 50% (still kicked 3 Satdy not the predicted 6) and not the 70% that would be reqiured for wedge tail to put me in the side. Will be there Satdy helping in other ways, very disappointed too as i love assoc footy and always have. Is a shame some of the best players in the comp wont be playing but all the other associations will be in the same boat.

Looking forward to playing against you next time tigertalk as i missed out last time. You have got a good side along with Mallala and are the teams to beat. The next three will be fighting for the other two spots and i know our boys are enjoying the challenge. Balaklava will and always do come good in August. They have got good big fellas but their little blokes dont compliment them well enough apart from Catford. Two Wells will beat anyone when they get thier noses in front and will be dangerous on a warm day on a big oval in September. I can make excuses for our couple of losses but you are always going to have injuries and just have to win with the 21 on the day. See some of you Thursday at Mallala
