Dont write off blackwood yet. They have several injured players to come back. Roche, there CHB, and have heaps of quality kids to choose from. Knowing Pagey the cheque book will get opened soon if they continue to lose.
Onkaparinga will benefit from Stringers discipline.
Uraidla have bought some gun recruits in Newland, staples, thomas, George.

oops ! Forgot Maccy. I think some have written Nairne Bremer off, remember they beat Kersbrook Away. Echunga were beaten by Kersbrook. This weekend may sort that out. Not too sure on Birdwood, may surprise some yet. Definitely an interesting year in Country.

the top 7 or 8 teams are a lot closer this year. good for the comp.
i would imagine the top 3 to be made up of tv, kangy & meadows.
followed by -
echunga - mully is doing a good job. has a lot of respect.
birdwood - been up there for a few years now
kersbrook - look to be big improvers
nairne - could be on the down slide
blackwood - lost too many players, alot of injuries
maccy - not enough depth or good players
gumeracha - not up to it
callington - not up to it

and in saying all that, blackwood or nairne or kersbrook could surprise. makes for a good comp except for the bottom 3 teams.

Uraidla Vs Mt Lofty is set to be a huge game, from what i've heard and seen, the only two sides that will challenge each other. When do they play?
Bridgey are a chance this week, forecast for rain, very much in Bridgey's favour, they play close, scrappy football better than anyone.

Round 8, June 3 is game of the season (well, the first of 2 i'd imagine).
I agree, they'll definitely challenge each other, at a time when no-one else seems close.
Bridgey are always a chance there, on what can barely be considered an oval.
I still think the Devs will win, but there won't be heaps in it, unlike their pervious 3 results.
But also don't underestimate the Devs strength around the ground. They still played without Pahl and Birch last week.

Been awhile by my standards so I'll try to comment on a few things.......

GWW and others, would agree with comments regarding Jimmy May. A lot of people may also forget that he did actually make the Advertiser SANFL team of the year in 1996 when Sturt only won a handful of games. In an earlier post when I was talking about his move to Meadows, I was surprised that he would play there and not continue on at Nairne, which is why I hinted that there may have been a bit of disquiet there regarding him not holding the coaching position. Not arguing as to reasons regarding coaching but it did surprise me to see him turn out for one of their chief rivals.

Think the standard of Hills Division 2/Country Division has generally been on the rise since about 1997. Am very confident that the current Macclesfield side would defeat the '97 side that played in the Grand Final if it were possible for the two to play off against each other. Still think they will cause a few surprises before the year is out.

So much for Bridgey being in dire circumstances!!!!!! Sure they may have picked up some good players but to beat the Mt Barkers (sure they kicked bad but you can't blame it all on that) of the world, maybe a few of us underestimated their holdover players.

Must have been a cracker's of games between Meadows and Nairne, Echunga and Torrens Valley.

I REALLY can't see Bridgey beating Lofty. If the Devs can even slightly adjust, they have the cattle to tear it apart. Could actually be high scoring.

Interesting to see that Bridgey's win over Mt Barker and Maccy's over Blackwood stuffed up all the Courier tipsters

Heard a big rumour that Bridgey will go the knuckle against Lofty this week targeting Fleet etc. Sounds like they think it would be the only way to win.

Yes sprinter sounds like Bridgy are up to their usual tactics of going at the man. The HFL would want to have experienced umpires selected for this match or it could get ugly as has been the case in previous years. Also ive heard a rumour that one central division club has already parted ways with their coach.

It would be to Bridgey's detriment if they went the man. In the past when both teams haven't done too well, there's been less to lose. But now both have the chance to shape a fruitful season. Going the knuckle would be stupid. Go the knuckle on a successful, young FF would be stupid also, he'd get looked after and that would really kill any chance bridgey have.
It may be a strong rumour, but I doubt it. It'll be physical (as usual) but they could unravel all their good work if they don't go the footy.
But I wouldn't be surprised if bridgey's B grade have a dip. Apparently there was an all-in last week at Barker.
