Big call Frozone. Howard played at Mt Compass a couple of years ago and was definitely a good ruckman but i wouldnt say he had the 'wood' over Steele or Thomas. Noone except Matty James has taken the honours against these 2 for quite some time with a couple drawing even.

However in saying that hes a good quality tall and im sure any GSFL side could do with his height and ability in there ruck stocks.

Disappointing for the D's to see they have lost their drive in BJ!!!!

The KI league were looking for a way to bring Dudley back to the pack after a couple of years of dominance over their, with quite a few lads who played juniors over there heading back to top up their list and give the old blokes a rest in the magoo's. They wanted to restrict the number of guys who didnt live on KI to be capped at 3!!! Dudley would have struggled to fill 2 teams. One of the options they looked into if this was to go ahead, was to join Yank, due to their location and previous relations with players playing for both clubs. This would have allowed the required A grade palyers to keep playing at a good level and helped Yank out with I believe some much needed numbers. The B's and colts would have stayed in the KI comp.

Grape left foots for 40m would have been a stab pass for you. Although i feel you may have struggled to get down to gether the ball in the first place without it being laced out to you?

B. Howard doesnt know of any offers being made to him yet. They must have been rejected by his management!!!!!

B Howard knows more than he's letting on or he's lost his phone... I'm sure he'd rather stay with Dudley but there are other factors that make the world go round. May be holding them close to his chest..

Welcome Forzone!!!
I guess M Thomas and T Steele will be hoping he stays with the Eagles. After the touching up he has given Thomas in the past, and given that Thomas is a way more accomplished ruckman/footballer than Steele, they will need to possibly double team the big unit!

Word is that had Thomas actually taken the job at EB, then he was going to try and recruit Howard himself so he would be able to take it as easy as he does with the D's!!!

He's an educated man Eagle and I'm sure he had plenty in mind if EB had've known what was good for them. He's got plenty of mates around the place maybe an 05 premiership reunion?

BJ while there is no doubting Thomas and Steele have the polish Howard doesn't seem to know when he's beaten and he's strong as an ox. That makes him a fair handful around the ground and would take the edge out of a rampant D's midfield when they don't receive it on a platter

How many rounds in the KIFL this year and when does is kick off? Not much grass at Wisanger yet.

Any chance we'll see Clayton Wilson make a guest appearance at Yank this year?

Three rounds this year Grape same format as last year apparently. Plenty of byes which helps those old soldiers like Clarke and co. Word is that Clayton is unlikely to don the Yank guernsey this year, he was training with them for a while pre-season in 07 and hasn't been sighted this year. I'm sure they'd be keen for his services even if only temporary but highly unlikely. 09?

Grape Ape, you seem to be pretty active on the GSFL forums. Did you get to see any of the Howard/ Thomas match ups, any input.

I didn't see any of the GSFL match ups but I've got some mates on KI and saw one in 05 when Thomas was at Wisanger. It was a classic battle of brains and beauty versus the brawn of the beast.

Apart from the ruck contests they played pretty wide of each other and both racked up a few touches. On mail medal night the umps gave 3 votes to Thomas and 2 to Howard but I heard a rumour that Thomas did sit with the umpires on the plane that morning....

The GSFL is a different kettle of fish altogether and I wouldn't rate Thomas as one of the better ruckman. Howard would be a competitive ruckman in the GSFL but would probably get exposed around the ground against the likes of James and Steele.

The plane is an interesting story but the real question is where was Heath Deer sitting?? Thomas only needed one vote on medal night and while Deer had a good year I don't think there's much debate as to who was/is the better footballer.

Good source told me that the ruckwork was 50/50 with neither having a big influence, Thomas just dominated around the ground especially while resting. Howard rucks all day. Howard was picked up by Port not long after that and did a fair bit of work, they expected Maric to play more AFL than he did that year so Howard played some Ressies before losing his licence at 150km. I never understood why Thomas didn't play more League, saw him in a zone game and killed it. I guess that's South though

Word has it there were half a dozen yank lads on KI for the weekend sniffing around to try to get some clearance forms signed!!!!!
C. Willson and brothers may do what he did last year for the first part and get some match practise in, before the real footy kicks off!

The umpire thing with Thomas and Deer was interesting! What was thomas doing on the sepcially chartered flight the umpires travel over there on?

Hay Fro i had some spys up at the zone matches too, and reported Thomas was dominant in the Southern Zones winning the comp. Backed up by him making the State country side also. Why wouldnt he have played more league? Were there too many beasts!

He was a good pick up for them half way through 06 Eagle. Played his juniors over there before going to school at Sacred Heart. Played a couple of 1st's for them and went on to play for SHOC. In and out of the seniors.

He looked super fit and cut at the beginning of 07 but got a missus and stopped training. Not sure what the word is on him for 08. The lad can sure lay a hip and shoulder, he'd fit into just about any country A grade side when fit, very solid half back.

Sounds like another big KI unit - Nev Clark. Outstanding junior player - State U16 rep (with Ottens, Cornes, Tredrea etc) but infortunately got a missus (when he was 12) and hasn't trained since! Absolutely unstoppable as a young lad -was known as "The Tsunami". What's he up to these days Fro?

He just keeps winning flags Bruce, his socks drawer is chockers with different colours and the reason his neck is 3' across is to hold up all the medals. He is suiting up with Dudley in 08 to try and take them to 3 in a row. Lounging around at Full Forward kicking bags of 10 and receiving the ball on a platter from Wilbur Wilson and co. What a machine.... he has a cult following over there. You should read the write ups in the local paper they're always pumping him up, they're also available on the net via the Islander site. The Yank pub always have parmy ready for him Saturday morning on the way to the ferry, I think that's why he's still going over there.

Sounds like Grenville himself!!!!

Word has it with him shifting clubs so often the only people who have been thriving/suffering are the food outlets! Apparrently while he was at Wisanger he used to keep the Ribbit Warren bakery in business just by himself on sat. mornings when he got off the plane. Not it has trouble keeping its doors open since he has switched back to dudley where he is constantly seen grazing on one of the so mentioned parmys from the yank pub or inhaling half of the Yank bakery before braving the treturious staight to have a kick and a catch with his mates during winter. Doesnt seem to bother him to much though!!!!
