my father used to play at the then lenswood ranges in the early 70's - i've very vague memories of the ground (small, always raining and with a creek that ran down the side of it (one that i always 'fell"in) with a stand of pine trees ?), their snappy apple green and red jumpers and have been trying to place the ground. I've tried driving aimlessly through the hills but that hasn't worked and dad's directions are so bad that i'm surprised he made any games.

who are they part of now and whereabouts would the ground actually be?

cheers

I reckon you are referring to the oval at Lenswood which still exists. I believe it's on Swamp Road as I drive past there often. Lenswood aren't a club anymore; I think they amalgamated with current Div 1 Hills club Lobethal. The pines and apple trees are still there. A beautiful drive in the early morning.

You could well be right mate. Sounds very possible. The ground would still be on Swamp Road though wouldn't it? It looks like a great oval going to waste footy-wise. Lobey/Urailda/Lenswood/Forest Range all very close but I'm not a historian in HFL and not the best one to answer this, just a guess.

What was the problem re 'no luck'? Was it lack of players or lack of HFL co-operation re entering 'C' Grade? You would think they should be glad of any team wishing to participate. I have been trying for some time to find out how many teams (if any) are in a 'C' grade, or if there will be one. I have heard Milang Panthers want to do this also. Nothing in the Courier and apparently the HFL programme is out. Does anyone know the state of things in this regard?

kangarilla played aldinga in a trial yesterday and won all games but had 13 first choice a graders out due to a bloody wedding and cricket finals!

a grade won by 8 goals

b grade by 3-4 goals

senior colts by 35 goals

junior colts by 10 goals

a grade won easily but lacked some polish with a lot of first year senior players from last years senior colts getting game time and some regular b graders haveing to fill spots in the a's. wakefield looked good as did norsworthy, raidis and digby. should be around the mark but may take some time but may take the senior grades some time to hit their straps

well played by Kangy A grade, well coached by the garden Gnome but it looked like he has had a fair amount of help from C Willis.

Paul Crichton would be ropeable that kangarillas heir apparent Corey Smelt got a full page spread in the advertisers country footy guide 2010 and that he barely got a mention!

Meadows played Yankilla yesterday, with Meadows winning all grades. Reserves up by about 4-5goals and the A's coming from a sluggish start (6 down to Yank in first quarter) to get up and eventually win by 2 goals. Was a good hard but clean fought out game.

So sounds like no C Grade then..what an aboration..Big o and co may have killed it with the way it ran last year..

Troubled to hear that a young parishoner of mine is potentially moving on from Gumeracha after playing a trial at Mypo on the weekend....problem that Gum have is that when the Magpie army is full of ring ins the locals may no longer feel there is no place for them in the congregation...

Oh yah and it be verily so that potentially a young cricket captain has seen the light and left the club

Amen brother

Spot on OTW. We had the players, money and interest to get a C grade team on the park last season at short notice (would have been hard work, but it would have happened), but ultimately the other clubs voted against it. A few of the closer clubs (Onkas/Lobey etc) would have feared losing a few players (in reality though it would have been close to none), whilst some argued that an extra team would introduce an unwanted bye.

As for the "Swamp Gully" alias, well, you can thank Uraidla's Mr Parker for that. Technically speaking Uraidla Districts own the licence of the "Lenswood Football Club", and were far from supportive of a reformation of even a C grade team. Never mind that nobody from Lenswood plays at Uraidla or has any affiliation to the club whatsoever. (none of the old photos/records etc are even held at the club).

We put an application in for this season back in June, but not holding breath on it. Seems as though the C grade is the last thing the HFL ever get around to organising.

From a presonal point of view, Lenswood folded/merged the year I was born, so I'd love to say I've played a game for the club on Lenswood Oval (which is still in good shape as we use it for cricket)

If we're talking about the same person, that would be a shame/shock, as I always took him as a very loyal Gum person.

the problem with teams like gumeracha and a few other small town teams is that the locals aren't good enough to mix it in country div now due to the amount of money GE hughes has put in. gumeracha tried to survive with just locals for 3 or 4 years but they just couldnt keep up. its sad to see locals not getting a go any more but the reality is that with out the ring ins thier club would fold... hopefully when torrens valley go up into central div it will even out a bit and the other clubs wont feel the need to have so many ring ins to keep up.
