HFL Division 2 (Country)

Talk on any country footy league or club from the SA Country area

It assumes me how everone is bagging out Owen (not that he doesn't help himself sometimes). The HFL is a delegate run association. Any club can bring any item to a meeting to be discussed and voted on. The power lies with the clubs not the board.

Not realistic. How far south can Hills Country go? How far in any direction for that matter. Sedan-Cambrai to Hackam? Bit hard for younger blokes hard-pressed for money and transport. It would also replicate Blackwood in Central Div in that both are essentially city clubs. Whatever happened to zoning?

I see your point, but if it means another team for the league, it surely has to mean a stronger and more sustainable league?? And at the end of the day, they would more than likley only have to travel each way once a year.

They rocked up but they decided not to play footy and just squabble amongst themselves.

Seriously though, to me that looked like a club in a bit of trouble if something doesn't happen soon. Players threatening to smash their own players on the field, players leaving before the games actually over, players declaring they never wanna play A's or even for the club again. Was a big shock for us.

On the flip side I thought it was one of the best 4 quarter performences we've put together all year. won but about 22 goals or so in the end.

Look to be honest I dont know whats going on but its more than disappointing to hear as I wasnt there due to work. I dont know how we can go with the undefeated side Echunga for the best part of 4 qtrs (albeit in Rd 1) but be destroyed by Kersy and Birdwood within 4 weeks. For mine it appears the coach has lost the players, as theres already a guy out on the field who is trying to do the job, for better or worse. Thommo has done a great job building the club up from where it was 3 years ago but the reality is we should be further ahead of where we are.

From a squad perspective I see a huge hole in our defence which Thommo knew needed to be filled with the losses of our fullback McPhedran and with Prowsey now settled down at Centrals but he didnt address it and we are paying for it. There were other names thrown around who through issues I dont really want to go into publically didnt materialise. The guys we brought to the club arent superstars but are good footballers and seem like pretty good guys too so I dont think the problem is there. Overall I actually think we had a better side this year and with good numbers on the track. Its obviously an A Grade issue though as our B's are doing really well and should finish around the pointy end this season.

Maybe the club knows what the issues are and dont want to address it, I wish I knew because id love to see the boys fulfill the talent they have and be playing in the last couple weeks of the year for the big prize. Sadly another year will go by with a respectable 4th-5th place finish and not much more.

Shortman question..

Has Thommo actually done a great job or is it a case of the players he could bring making the club more competitive and maybe not having the coaching nouse to take them to the next level?

Don't know the bloke..have admired his passion when I have watched him from afar but the question still stands

what makes you say that? i'll take gumeracha by 72 points

Will be match of the round, home ground advantage might be the difference. Looks like the Dogs have got that winning feeling back along with a few blokes that have been there before. Gummers possibly have a better team on paper, do they have the discipline and teamwork? Meadows not to be underestimated. My tip: Gummers.... Just.

Match of the round my ar$e!! A fizzer! That's why you shouldn't make comment based only on what you have read in the paper! Gummers the real deal to go all the way to the final dance??

Still the real deal to go all the way to the final dance?

Without laying a personal attack on Thommo....... Yes. His passion and intensity couldnt be questioned but IMO he was reliant on bringing in some pretty talented players and a guy like Quinno who has the footy smarts.

IMO yes and theres still time for it, but it would take a fair change in attitude to see that. As I said, its not all his fault, infact much of the blame should be taken away from his shoulders.

From afar it seems like it's totally his fault. Sure there are probably a few players stiring the pot but the coach needs to make the team unified and not allow such ridiculous in fighting, especially seeing as they have solid juniors coming up. A player who usually plays B's played A's on the weekend and said he never wants to play A's again becuase of the in fighting.

   Not likely!!! It was just a question though. Don't seem to have the mental strength to compete with the top 3. Who knows, they may yet self destruct and go back to where they were 3-4 years ago???!!!
