Why dont they just join the C grade comp already. How many Juinor Teams will they be fielding this year? Teams are actually loosing money due to this, it cost a fair bit to get a Game day organised and no one is showing up to watch a Callington game.... why would you want too?

Callington have confirmed 10-12 players for season 2012 (total).
They have no juniors.
Spineless of the league administration not to sacrifice one for the betterment of the rest of your league, why are clubs paying fees for administration and management if this is exactly what is NOT happening.
I take it on good advice that unless severely pressured that the hills gumbits will allow callington until game time on round one to pull the pin... this is possibly a by-law
Meantime whoever plays them in the first few rounds is left to reshuffle any plans, miss out on income for an unplanned forfeit all while the rest of the South Australian Football community sit back and collectively laugh our arses off.
All this happening while the league continues to place bandaid solutions over the nature and make up of the senior colts debacle which in 2012 is apparently going to be splitting clubs up and have them travelling to different parts of the country side! Can someone from this association confirm this is the case?

For the remaining clubs sake I hope that Callington do the right thing and pull the pin sooner than later and place their side in the C'Grade until they can re-build correctly.

AND NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO the answer is NOT in providing Callington with mroe points to recruit players as they have recently applied for.

i hope it can get all sorted out, you dont want to see clubs die off.

I too hope the callington situation can get sorted, this is not only a club problem but a league problem. It would seem that the Hills Association is at the mercy of the city sides and when you spread yourself too thinly you end up failing in every aspect.

On the senior colts topic.... Birdwood are clearly chasing the best juniors in order to have a bright future as they look to cement themselves in the city div. Again, another situation created by the league.

One simple way around this COULD be to have one hills under 15 and 17 competition. Do a draw that sees games shared amongst clubs and which includes neutral grounds and give any kickbacks to the clubs with teams in the competition. That way their should almost always be a colts game at every senior venue, a bye round could help and rivalry could be returned. No doubt once this works and the clubs without juniors die then it COULD be replicated in the seniors?

Why..obvoisly you are not involved with a HFL country div side. Playing cally is a disarster..no following, disorganised etc

Not to mention the safety issues! How many brawls/fights were they involved in last year - and how many times their players (and coach) had to front the tribunal.

Cally have got no one to blame but themselves - the way they ran their club 5+ years ago has got them in this position.
About time they swallowed their pride and played C grade until the club gets their business in order.

Interesting coming from you informer seeing though your club has contributed greatly towards this issue by offering neighbouring clubs juniors petrol money to play at birdwood this year. Thats pathetic and destroys the league as far as juniors are concerned. And dont bother arguing because this is not a rumour.

your definately right there foxstar, they have stolen most of our senior colts. Then they have the cheek to bag clubs that dont have juniors.

Not only are they offering petrol money they are also guaranteeing a premiership too

You guys are kidding aren't ya!  If you think we're paying any colts, you're living in a dreamland. Simple!
Have some of the Gum colts come across to Birdwood? Yes. But you better check in your own back yard why they left. It certainly wasn't a recruiting drive by Birdwood, that's for sure.

And K'n'B, nice fishing!

Kick'n Back wrote:Talk going around that more than one club is struggling for survival and this could be the final season for one of these clubs and i am not talking about Callington. The club i am talking about has played finals footy the last couple of years but now can not fill any junior sides and with the majority of senior players leaving for various reasons it may be time to fold at seasons end. So AKA you better make sure you get your money in weekly instalments this year might not be much to go around next year.

If it's us you are talking about, it would be bloody tragic but as I've been saying for sometime, the town is now like Clarendon and the established locals do not wan't anything to do with the football club - even though they wan't it to continue - so feel it is unfortuanately inevitable but I know the ones that are still there now will do their best to ensure it survives.

Not to mention starting fights with opposition club supporters ;) although I had heard that one particular supporter had it coming - verbally abusing a female supporter or something like that

i would love to come back and play hills footy again. the reason i left was because of callington and the league officials being too gutless to do anything about any issue. im sure im not the only person who thinks like this. when the country division starts getting a bit more competitive again we might see a lot of past players return. i would also love my kids to play hills footy but until the league does something about the juniors i will not be sending them up the hill. an unhealthy comp will not attract any players at any level.

Nothing wrong with Hills Central, come up and play/send your kids at/to one of those clubs.

of course it wouldn't have anything to do with the fact that Birdwood have had one of the best and most professionally run junior departments in the league for the best of 20 years???

It costs too much to finance an 'A' grade team as you know; I doubt any club has got money left to pay their senior colts.
When Garry was at Gum he used to 'pay' the colts players by letting them run up a tab at the canteen wherever they went. Dunno why you Gum blokes are all of a sudden getting your knickers in a bunch about it??

Going to try and compete with a dozen players with the same fool as the coach. Not doing the comp any good.

We took on Jervois... 6 quarters (i know it's not quarters), first 3 pretty even, i think birdwood by maybe a goal or 2, second 3 we would have won pretty comfortably.
Good solid hit out... obviously just a trial with players missing/trying things and so on.

Looking forward to the family day this Sunday at the Velodrome. Internal trial and lots of kids around. Should be a great day.
Any colts wanting to come we'll pay for a personalised helicopter to come and pick you up.
