Would be so weird if they merged given Ironbank are looking at having enough players to field 3 senior teams next season.

I'd be very surprised if Ironbank agree to this. IMO Bridgy would be better off seeking a merger with Mount Lofty considering the proximity if they had to merge with anyone. Sadly i believe they are more likely to fold completely

Statement from Bridgewater Callingtons Facebook page:

CLUB STATEMENT

To our Raiders members

As you may be aware, our club held a special meeting last Thursday 20th October to present the current situation of our club and potential options for moving forward. The meeting was well attended by about 70 members and we thank them for showing an interest and providing valuable input.

Following a presentation from club President Simon Bryars and a group discussion, the group came to a strong majority consensus that the best current option for our club is to seek a merger with Ironbank Cherry Gardens Football Club and to remain in Division 1 for season 2023. This would enable the already successful IronRaiders colts teams to continue in their current structure and to provide the necessary two senior teams and three colts teams for Division 1. It would also facilitate depth in the senior playing squad, depth for volunteer roles, and provide for a sustainable community football club in the longer-term. The decision had nothing to do with the current finances of our club which are sound.

The next step is for our club to form an internal working group and to form a joint sub-committee with Ironbank to facilitate a possible merger. At this stage, the merger is NOT definite and NO decisions have been made about the name of a merged club, jumper design, club song, where games will be played, etc. These will be decisions for the members of both clubs to make following recommendations by the joint sub-committee and working group.

Nonetheless, it can be stated that Moddies football (U8 to U12) and Auskick will both continue unaffected at Bridgewater in their current format regardless, and that the IronRaiders will continue as they are. It should also be made clear that any merger must be mutually beneficial and in the best interests of both clubs. If successful, the merger should be viewed as a positive and proactive initiative for junior and senior men’s and women’s football in the rapidly changing landscape of community football.

We will post further updates as necessary and would appreciate respect in this difficult but potentially very exciting time.

Congratulations to Bridgewater to seriuosly look into this, its extremely difficult decision but participation is waning in footy and to look at merging to keep alive is to be applauded. Losing your own identity is difficult, but not as difficult as folding altogether. Wish Bridgey and Ironbank all the best for their discussions. A combined team in Div 1 could be a smokey in several grades.

Definitely wish them all the best. Only issue I can see is merging with another club that's not the closest town/suburb can be a problem. Especially if you have to drive right past another clubs oval on the way.

Noodles decided to step down. He's done a tremendous job over past 5 years so kudos to him.

Appears we are set on Div 1, will be fascinating to see how many Bridgey seniors stay. A combined side would be quality but if it's mainly an Ironbank side then Div 1 will be an awful struggle in seniors.

Mainly Juniors, we would not be able to get all 3 junior sides without Bridgeys assistance. So be at risk to lose those kids, plus Bridgey have big Junior numbers from 12s under. Plus fair to assume Bridgey have a much bigger treasure chest to recruit then ironbank do these days.

Couldn't confirm as haven't had much to do with Juniors since we went to Div 2 but I'd suggest so, we always have. Blackwood get the Majority but we always get a small portion.

Irombanks 2022 captain and BnF winner Josh Rosman has left for flaggies. Pretty stunning considering hes been ironbank through and through. Massive loss to go with the Vanders boys.

Youd want to hope Ironbank have some serious recruits coming or div 1 is a pipe dream or theyll get flogged every week given their losses

They'll go ok if the merge with Bridgewater goes ahead

In the end theyll do whats best for the longevity of their club. Jumping off the sinking ship that seems to be the Country Div and taking their licks for a year might not be a horrible idea in the long run. Take Nairne as an example. Try and grow their youth, have solid culture and you can start to compete in div 1 like Nairne do now. Some key acquisitions like Darcy Hourigan has certainly helped.
