Whyalla Football League

Any news/ player movements in the Whyalla Football League. Will Centrals continue their dominant run? Is supercoach Ken Burton still at the helm? Who will challenge them?

Haha, BTB, very funny.
Mutley, Ken Burton won't coach, having a year off.
I can't remember who is taking over, but if i remember the name i'll let you know.
Bays appointed Roopena life member Harry Marks as coach.
West will have Sawford again.
North have BMW's Freddy Feeman as their coach.
Roos hav Bevan Kelly in his last year.
South keep fatty sleep.
South have recruited Guy Sultan and Ray McIntosh to their list, while Josh Scharenberg heads to West Augusta with his mate Kirk Higgins.

How have things been going in whyalla so far this season?
Imagine if there was no roopena. There wouldn't be a club to prop up other clubs with players and coaches!

Not sure, haven't really followed it too closely, although no Waylon Neilsen this year will be a loss!

Didn't think Waylon played well at Mortlock last year, although i don't reckon he was fully fit.
Bit of flack for the boys on their behaviour over the weekend, I reckon if you're out of winning contention, fair enough too.
It was a great weekend last year, hope the boys had a good one this year.

Roopena really pushed South with a late surge on the weekend but are out in fourth spot, and probably deservedly so in Bevan Kelly's last season as coach.
South don't quite look the same strong side we were seeing at the start of the season, although their talent is in abundance with Ray McIntosh, Guy Sultan and youngster Dwayne Colson all in the same squad.
West absolutely smashed North in the second semi final on Friday night.
North fancied themselves to win this one but West were too good led by Love Muscle Russell Sawford.
Leading goal kicker Nick Prokopec was almost missing considering he only slotted two goals for the game.

This leads to this week's preliminary final, South v North.
North have a good solid team and should win it.
Chad Menzies and Chad Clothier control the midfield and forward line, especially with Prokopec in the goal square, but it's defensively i think North will struggle.
South have the creative genius of Reggie Reid, Colson, McIntosh and Eddie Wilson up forward that will stretch North.
I wouldn't write off the Dees, but their an unpredictable mob, and North probably deserve to go through.

South's Ray McIntosh pulled off another Whyalla News Medal victory last night.
West's Leigh Symons again in the top three as runner up and last year's winner Greg Fiebig from Roopena in third.

Ray just catches the umps eye every time, his speed and athleticism almost unmatched.
Don't know if anyone saw his season at Robe last year, but having played alongside him, he's top notch. Except when shooting at goals.

West(Dragons) vs North(Magpies) in the GF this weekend. North's first GF since 1980.

No premiership since 1978. Thirty year drought! Good chance to be broken, but West will be led with the experience of Russell Sawford backed with matchwinners Shannon Winders, Kingsley Ware and Ben Henderson.
West know how to win finals, it's only been a few years between drinks for them. They took North to the cleaners in the second semi. The maggies haven't been in this deep (as said above) for a long time. Would take something special for the Maggies to win it.

Dragons by 5 goals when it matters.

They'll come from 4th if they do.

EDIT: Back to the league, North actually won in 78 & 79 and their last GF was 82.

North played centrals in 2003 that was the last time they played in a GF

Looks as if the Maggies got up in a tight one, running over the top in the end by ten points.

Don't know if anyone was at the game, but no doubt the North boys enjoyed a drought breaking win.
