Scott Teakle did very well at Birdwood and has done very well at Ardrossan as well.

Not sure if he'd be SA's best country footballer though.

Hopefully one day he'll move back to the Hills so we can find out!! ;)

Didn't actually see him play but people say Bowden Cybulka. Won 6 mail medals in RMFL (5 at Tailem Bend and 1 with Ramblers) and im not sure how many premierships. Also think he had a crack in town aswell.

Brad Paech (Ramblers RMFL 1975-88) Lyndon Elsworthy (Moonta YPFL 198? -1998) Matt Stelzer (Renmark) all would be strong contenders. Especially Paech; unstoppable at his best..

Geez this thread has been quiet for a bit.. and a impossible topic.
2 many great footballers around and too many differing and biase opinions?

But i'll throw a few names around..
DW.. help me here!
2004 Ind Team vs KI - name eludes me at the moment, 40+ years old, 6-7 Mail Medals but may have played for South.. cant remember?
M.Gutsche - would definately qualify for Freakyish country footballer? could supprise you when you'd thought you'd seen him run out of tricks.
..................................
I'd be interested in opinions of some older heads here on how they rated the following...
Darryl, Stephen and Keiren Drybrough - Kimba (or Cowell?) and Roxby Districts
Gary Briggs - Port Augusta (Willsden?) and Andamooka
Terry Dwyer - Broken Hill and Roxby

guys I looked up to as a junior
Good Luck Ovies!

The scoreline and the trip home are the bits i'd rather forget.

1 of the best players i have had the privlidge to play with was Roger Wilson. Ball skills both by hand and foot and either side of the body was awsome to watch when he was on song. Won 2 mail medals in different leagues and probarly should have won more.

That was the year before I joined the Indys that trip. It's a damn shame I missed it!
Great tales. Was filled in on all the details on the following Monday.

Wasps, there wouldn't have been too many blokes "getting out of bed" surely ;)

We had to get up that time because the bus left Loxton at 5.30 am. And as Ambo72 said we arrived 20 minutes before game time, they generously put the start time back 30 minutes. Kingscote had 7 inches of rain that week so you couldn't stand up on the oval.

The following year when KI came to the Riverland they arrived the night before.

RFL didnt spend much the first year, we had 21 players, one reserve, runner/ assistant coach, team manager and Howard Duthie. We used Loxton geurnsey's, plain white shorts and canary yellow socks. I also think Sea Link brought us over for nothing

Was a rough trip over the water and over the land.

The man is an absolute freak .... probably has no regrets as to playin at a higher level. But could have been whatever he wanted to be. From what i ve heard when he was playin league footy at South just decided this aint for me and drove down and jumped on the next ferry home. Then proceeded to single handedly win games of footy for the best part of two decades

Played with "Flogger" Florence when he was at South. Top bloke. He played mostly reserves, but was more than handy. Didnt really take to city life. IMO, if he applied himself with a bit more commitment, he would have played a lot of league footy. Sadly, a lot of players from the country prefer that way of life.

Didnt mind a beer either.
