Bob Boston certainly would be in the GF of this survey. Orroroo's Keith Nutt gets a huge wrap after taking the NAFA Roos to a couple of premierships then in 2006 taking the Central Zone to victory in the Country Champioships in Berri. He was so good to get those under rated boys up over regular unbeatable South Adelaide reserves - aka Southern Zone - side that the drones in power boned Northern Areas and the BLGFL out of the Central Zone to weaken them and bring them back to the field. The Nuttmeister quit after 2007 but as a motivator and tactician he has no peer.

The General by a long way imo. Back when the WFL was very strong he melded a bunch of blokes into a very strong team. I was a witness to many of his inspirational adresses as a young lad and you would walk away with goose bumps. Spoke to me, after he'd finished coaching, before my first A grade game. I will never forget it. Great man and great family. I was lucky enough to play with all 3 of his boys who were brilliant footballers and blokes!

In the early 80's, RSMU had 2 coaches who had a massive impact on my footy - I was only 17-18 at the time, just coming out of under 17's. Firstly, Graham "Gunna" Delsar who played at a few clubs, including Ferryden Park (correct me if I'm wrong) in the days when SAFA footy was on the TV on Sunday afternoons (who remembers that??). He was a great player, tough as nails and as a coach would do anything to inspire his teammates (playing coach at that stage). To a 17 year old trying to get a kick in the A grade, he was both an idol and very very scary to me (he could go off like I had never seen before or since).

After Gunna, we had Grant Zubrinich (ex Norwood and Sturt) - great guy, great player and excellent motivator. However neither could get a flag for RSMU, who in all honesty used to bat above their average in the BL & G Association.

I had left by the time Bill Lokan (ex North Adelaide and Fitzroy) came on the scene in the 90's but I am told that he was magnificent coach as well. Alas, he couldn't get RSMU a flag either.

On the flip side, I have had some coaches who won flags but were absolutely terrible. Greatness is in the eye of the beholder, but should a coach be judged simply by how many flags they have won??

Your correct FF - I believe he coached a flag at Williamstown, a very indifferent guy... ;)
