Balaklava v Min Man @ 12noon six periods
Hamley v Sedan Cambrai @ 12 noon six periods
Bute v HWE: I think Bute had enough numbers for two matches, HWE were looking for six periods.
Right in front of me. RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME!

Pretty even first quarter, Mallala had the better of the second, we kicked 7 goal to 1 or something in the third and Mallala probably won the last. There are more important reasons for the game than just having a hit out though.

Mallala were still missing plenty with cricket (Montgomery x2, Parish, Hardie, Wilbur, Earl off the top of my head).

The opposition coach addressed the opposing team after the game which I thought was a great concept.

What were your thoughts? As an umpire it's probably one of my favourite grounds to umpire on in the APFL, they are all pretty unique.
Balaklava: Nice surface, has a pocket that finishes at Lochiel.
Virginia: Lush and heavy under foot, makes me feel even slower.
United: Picturesque, I always make sure I have a big feed first so the wind doesn't carry me away.
PW/Lochiel: Apart form the drive, I like.
Two Wells: The width is deceiving, nice ground generally though.
Hamley: The velodrome, always have to work your way to the club side so you can run downhill to approach the contest.

I was at Mallala Oval last week - it's a beautiful looking surface.

I think that's what makes it even more unique.

I recall my first drive there:
Me "Where the f*** is this oval?"
X "Just look for the water tower and keep driving towards it"

Bam.

I loved it, had some backpackers camping on the other side too who looked a bit worse for wear.

As someone who has played all his life in the city, I am completely envious of the atmosphere and condition of country grounds.
