Club and Competition History Books & Stubby Holders

Postby Benchwarmer » Sun Apr 12, 2009 12:00 am

I am coming to Adelaide in May and am hunting down some footy books for my collection.

What clubs and leagues currently have history books in circulation?

Hi Benchwarmer

Pop into the State Library, there's a heap in there.

David Dunhill has published several books for the Riverland Football League.
Also Peter Lines has published his Encyclopedia of SA Country Footy Clubs.

I have the updated Mail Medalists Book and Peter Lines' book, an old Football Times yearbook or two and some SANFL Media guides and a handful of programmes.

I need to try and get a copy of the South Gawler book when I am there as I cannot find the copy I bought in the past ... and I'll need to try and get a few more stubby holders from different grounds for my collection!

Any others able to be purchased gathering dust in a club store room ... some of the best ones that I have bought have been acquired in this way.

I have actually got something like that from the 1960s but I don't know which year.

I am more into Budgets from grassroots level as well as club or competition history books, though I may consider looking to get a few SANFL Budgets from At The Toss Of A Coin to fill gaps from certain years.

I will be getting a copy of the Riverland Centenary book when I am in SA in mid-May, and I will be trying to get another copy of the South Gawler book which I haven't got anymore after my move from Melbourne to Perth.

I will try and pick up a few more stubby holders to add to my 95-odd collection of footy and cricket stubby holders (including the one for the RFL centenary). I have a sparse SA content with only one so far - and that is from the Murray Bridge Redlegs!

Thanks to those clubs and leagues who were able to help me out with the chance to buy books and stubby holders during my recent SA visit.

I picked up a few items from At The Toss Of A Coin, as well as books from Mitcham, South Gawler, Riverland FL and Adelaide Lutheran as well as something like a dozen stubby from clubs as diverse as SANFL clubs to the Murray Bridge Ramblers and the Riverland FL.

The missus wasn't overly thrilled with the reduction in free space on the bookshelves and behind the bar, but then again that's life!
