It's a bit late....but I'll try and get Riverland scores up by Tuesdays from now on.

And maybe even Mallee scores too.

Report over alleged incident

By NICK DILLON
A Loxton player was last night reported by the Barmera-Monash Football Club for an alleged strike behind the play in the A grade match at Loxton on Saturday.
It follows a situation which saw saw Nigel Dillon admitted to hospital with a broken jaw after the A grade match between the Roos and the Tigers at Loxton on Saturday.
Dillon was forced from the ground with severe facial injuries during the second quarter and was flown to Adelaide on Saturday night to undergo surgery.
The Roos had until 5pm yesterday to lodge a report and did so minutes before the deadline.
Yesterday morning, Barmera-Monash president Glenn Millard was busily trying to ascertain exactly what happened before deciding on whether the club would submit the report.
A massive brawl erupted moments before the alleged incident occurred in what was a fiery clash between two clubs fighting for a top-two spot.
Loxton's Ben Quinn was also injured during the melee but later returned to the field.
Dillon was expected to be released from hospital yesterday but Millard had spoken to his wife, Benita, regarding the surgery.
"Having spoken to his wife, he's had his jaw broken in three places, there's some dental issues and teeth problems but from what I understand the operation was a success," Millard said.
"So that's the good news that it doesn't appear to be any long-term problems but obviously the jaw's still been broken."
Clubs now have the power to report players following the addition of a by-law to the constitution at the Riverland Football League's AGM in December, 2005.
It is currently unknown when the tribunal hearing will be held because of the availability of Dillon who is obviously the key witness.

Resilient Demons end losing streak

Berri played their best four quarters of football for the season to defeat Waikerie by four points in an action packed match at Berri on Saturday.
The Demons, who ran hard all day and attacked at every opportunity, outscored Waikerie by five goals to one in the third quarter to set up their confidence building win in a highly entertaining and most exciting game of football.
On winning the toss, Waikerie elected to kick to the northern end of the Berri Oval which was favoured by a slight breeze.
With Chris Gibson, Thomas Hansen and Shane Clonan prominent early, it looked like it would be only a matter of time before the Magpies split Berri's defence wide open.
To their credit the Demons backmen withstood the pressure well and with Michael Hare, Kale Reed and Peter Safralidis all looking good, Berri were not without a chance when they only trailed by 18 points at quarter time.
Through the dominance of their big men Tom Leverenz and Scott Muller, the Demons controlled the centre square breaks and with Safralidis running unchecked off the Magpie forwards, Berri controlled the play for much of the second quarter.
Reed and Hare continued to play outstandingly well; however inaccurate kicking for goal was preventing the Demons from putting Waikerie right out of the contest.
Good individual efforts from Gibson, Luke Horner and Damien Stevens ensured the Magpies led by 22 points at half time.
Skilful running play from Matthew Underwood and Jim Thomson set up Matthew Oliver for the Magpies ninth goal at the four-minute mark but for the rest of the quarter it was all Berri.
The Demons ability to handpass accurately out of the packs to the player running past was awesome and with players of the quality of Rhys Stanley, Darren Baker and Chris Scholefield being allowed to roam around unchecked, Waikerie looked in serious trouble.
Aaron Bland's great defensive work was largely responsible for keeping Waikerie in the game as they clung to a one-point lead at the last change.
Both sides played some outstanding football in the last quarter; however poor umpiring threatened to spoil a good contest.
Stanley's goal kicked at the 15-minute mark put the Demons in front by five points.
What looked to be an obvious goal kicked by young Hansen of Waikerie was disallowed under controversial circumstances.
Great play from Travis Voigt and the Demons best player Michael Hare allowed Safralidis to kick his second goal from a surprising free kick and Berri showed real character to hang on and defeat the might of Waikerie in a real nail-biter.

Loxton end Roos' good start
A focused Loxton side put an end to Barmera-Monash's dream start to the 2006 season with a solid 41 point victory at Tigerland.
It was always going to be a measuring stick for the Roos and as the afternoon unfolded Barmera-Monash coach Mark Tyrell would have certainly accepted his side was exposed in a number of areas.
An error ridden opening to the game saw Barmera-Monash draw first blood via an early goal to underated Roos utility Tyson Swanbury but after an early arm wrestle it was the Tigers who broke the shackles with a stunning 15 minutes of power football that produced seven goals.
Superior foot speed saw the likes of Thiele and Quinn pump the ball in relentlesly to Haydn Fromm (three goals) and Sinkinson (two goals) and with jack-in-the-box Jesse Smith dominating in the ruck the Tigers had come to play and Barmera's Luke Tyrrell seemed the only one willing to offer any resistance.
Tigers coach Mick Zerna would have been very happy with the way the Raphael Liddle match up on Roos star Peter Shepherd was unfolding, the Darwin star virtually unsighted in the opening stanza, while Roos boss Mark Tyrrell pleaded with his side to go back to basics and become more accountable.
The second term saw an early goal to Loxton followed by an ugly melee which saw Loxton's Ben Quinn leave the field injured and Roos backman Nigel Dillon with a severely fractured jaw in a behind the play incident.
This seemed to change the tempo of the game and it was the Roos who took advantage working their way back in the contest with Jack Selfe, Ryan Villis and the elusive Luke Tyrell working hard.
As was the case last week, the Tigers had again let the opposition back into the match after holding a clear advantage, as Roo midfielders Ryan Villis and Dave Whitbourne came into the game.
Barmera-Monash twice closed to within eight points of Loxton, but on both occasions Cohen Thiele immediately responded to again give his Tigers the upper hand, kicking two goals.
With Andrew Hoskin and Rhys Mitchell also getting involved, Loxton continually went forward, registering 22 scoring shots in the second half and 38 for the game.
At times, Barmera-Monash also had their chances in front of the sticks but missed too many 'gettable' set shots at goal at important stages.
A strong final term saw the hometown Tigers cruise to a comfortable victory, as they restricted the Roos to just the one goal.
Sharing the responsibilities of shutting down Barmera-Monash dangerman and boom recruit Peter Shepherd, the Liddle brothers did an excellent job, restricting Shepherd to two majors.
Loxton this week face Renmark at Renmark in a game which should establish them in the top four.

North finally claim first win

Dave Gregoric's three goal third quarter propelled Loxton North to a come-from-behind victory over Renmark at Renmark Oval.
The Panthers' form suggested they were not far away and finally were rewarded.
The match began with the hosts looking sharp and winning the clearances but wasteful in front of goals.
Brett Exelby led by example with creative disposals and fellow midfielder Nick Darby was damaging at the stoppages.
The Rovers defence was miserly with Ben Files and Brett Kennedy leading the way.
Peter Dempsey was a mobile focal point in the forward lines and Anthony Lippis looked dangerous.
Rovers' player-coach Exelby stressed to his players that Loxton North didn't want the football and for his side not to relent and that goals would come.
A Darby goal for the hosts at the start of the second stanza put them 16 points up which was the margin at the main break.
The game to this point was a scrappy affair before a dramatic shift in midfield momentum.
Little helmeted Tim Arnold, with ruckman Simon Dymmott, engineered a stunning comeback.
With a winning forward target in Barry Kaesler, the visitors lifted all over the ground.
A spilled Paul Burne mark culminated in a Gregoric goal ? the first in the second half.
The margin was just 10 points at three-quarter time and quick-leading Jason Barry, for the Panthers, reduced Renmark's lead to four points.
Craig Wooldridge's double blind turn at Loxton North's half forward line resulted in another Gregoric major.
The Rovers were rattled and their opponents were never headed from then on.
Ryan Proud's strong second half pleased the Panther faithful with hard-earned possessions and Dymmott provided 'silver service' taps to runners in Chris Kropinyeri, Matthew Barry, Paul Wood and Andrew Tullett.
During the last quarter Dymmott out-manoeuvred a couple of Rover players and when Proud and Tim Arnold featured with a Kaesler goal, the game was all but over.
Renmark, for all their talent, do not work hard enough over a sustained period which must annoy coach Exelby.
Panther star winger Paul Wood said post-match, "The coach at half time just told us not to give in and that we have good second halves."
It showed but lost chances proved costly for Renmark who confront Loxton next week while Loxton North meets Berri in both crucial matches.

Forwards on song in Independents

Independent football saw the forwards dominate this week and Cobdogla's Darrell Tilbrook led the way with 14 goals against Wunkar.
Tilbrook, Paringa's Simon Sumner (eight), Lyrup's Gilbert Karpany (seven), Moorook-Kingston's Tom Graetz (seven) and teammate Jarrod Loxton (seven) all had a good day in front of the big sticks.
Karpany's seven were particularly important as his side made Paringa buckle in the final quarter to win by 44 points.
The Lions were dominant for most of the match apart from the third quarter when Paringa played some good football to close to within three points.
However, Lyrup booted eight goals in the final quarter to seal a confidence boosting win.
Viv Rigney used his big frame well for the Lions while veteran Shane Healy battled all day.
Paringa's Sumner was unstoppable up forward but the Swans lacked other scoring options.
The Swans are struggling to emulate their late season form of 2005 but like most sides, should have several players returning to the fold in coming weeks.
Warriors survive air raid
Moorook-Kingston survived a first quarter scare from Brown's Well before going on to record a 140-point win.
The Warriors were never troubled after quarter time with Graetz and Loxton doing the damage on the scoreboard.
Midfielder Todd Elliott was once again one of Moorook's best while Nick White and Nick Tsakarellos also had strong showings.
The classy Russ Charles was the Bombers' best player again.

Eagles soar above Dogs
Cobdogla had their biggest win for the year when they defeated Wunkar by 161 points.
The improved Jason Golding was a star for Cobdogla while Luke Hefford dashed around the field unchecked most of the day.
Tilbrook found the going easy up forward, making the most of his opportunities to boot 14 goals.
Wunkar's best were Shaun Kempster and Neil Johnson.

RFL is the larger towns in the region.
Independents smaller towns - your irrigation and farming settlements.
I play for Moorook in the Indys. Used to play for Loxton.

No Modras running around for Loxton any more (I work with a niece though). They actually spent more time at Renmark than Loxton.
There's a Modra playing for Renmark now - not sure of what the relationship is though.

I think top sides would be bottom half of div 6.
Others lower than that.

Just correcting your 'Modra history' Dogwatcher.

The Modra's were originally from Christies Beach.

Kym ( A grade) and Tony ( Thirds) joined Loxton in about 1985. Tony played Thirds again the following year before joining West Adelaide underage teams. Kym had an accident with a forklift and was a long time out of footy after that.

Rick joined Berri in 1988 after winning the Mail Medal for Mid Murray club, Cadell the previous season. Tony returned from West in 1989 and played for Loxton A grade finishing third in the Whillas Medal.

In 1990 all three brothers joined Renmark and played in a premiership. The following year all three headed off to play for Redcliffs in the Sunraysia however there was a ..... let's call it a fracas, Tony was hauled back to Westies by Doug Thomas and Rick and Kym returned to Renmark.

In 1992 Rick was still at Renmark and remained there through to retirement, the last I heard of Kym he was involved in setting up Aussie Rules in Denmark. As for Tony I think he ended up doing allright for himself.

I had to read about it in the Sunday Mail.
No one from Wunkar was contactable until Sunday night.
Good on them, they get a week off then East Murray at home and the big fellah played a half on Saturday.
They have been struggling along with the bare 22 because of injuries so maybe a win might bring a few out of the woodwork.

Mate, both them and the Bombers are in trouble with injuries.
For two clubs who can't afford the injuries - they're copping them really badly.

Well, we've got the rep match against Mid Murray this weekend Supa, what's your thoughts can the Indys get up?

Roos back on winners list
By MARTIN HILL
Barmera-Monash moved one step closer to their first finals appearance since 2002 with a 24-point victory over an inacccurate Loxton North side at the lakeside oval.
The Roos, buoyed by the inclusion of skipper Steve Marks and bigman Bruno Berno, started the game in fine style with the rampant duo in Luke Tyrell and Mark Berts not only providing plenty of midfield drive for the roos but providing goal scoring power for the home side.
The Panthers skill errors proved costly with Ryan Proud and Matt Barry offering the only resistance to a first quarter belonging to the roos who kicked five straight goals to North's solitary four behinds.
It was a couple of master strokes by Loxton North coach Terry Eleftheriadis that saw the Panthers get themselves back into the game in the second term.
He decided to go tall in the forward line with Michael Arnold, Dymmott and Barry Kaesler thus stretching the Roos defence and it paid immediate dividends with Arnold kicking two majors and Dymmott one that saw the Panthers get on top.
Youngster Ben Miller in the ruck was giving the panthers small brigade first look at the footy and with Anton Cook doing a good job on Roos star Peter Shepherd it looked like Loxton North would go into the main break in front.
However, the Roos hit back late in the second quarter with goals to Matthew Pitman and Kassulke and strong play from Drogemuller, Marks and Tyrrell saw the Roos take a handy 19 point break into the main break.
The third term was a real arm wrestle that resulted in scrappy play from both sides, that suited North's Matt Barry and Brad Williams.
If it wasn't for inaccurate shots on goal from Craig Wooldridge, Ryan Proud and Kaesler (hitting the post from 15 metres out) late in the term the Panthers could well have been a lot closer than 19 points down at the final exchange.
An early goal in final term by the hard running Matthew Barry gave the Panthers a sniff of victory but it was short lived as dangerous Roos forward Peter Shepherd slotted through a long bomb, followed by a big mark and goal by recruit Bruno Berno to put the game beyond doubt.
Barmera-Monash star Luke Tyrell would have surely put himself into early season Whillas medal favouritism with an irresistible performance and if the Roos can rid themselves of concentration lapses there is no doubt they can challenge any side in the competition.
Loxton North have certainly improved as the season has progressed but rely on too few to carry the workload and will need their second string players to lift mid-season if they are to play a major role in shaping the RFL ladder in season 2006.

Loxton win in an epic encounter
In a match living up to its top-of-the-table standards and expectations, football was the biggest winner along with Loxton's eight-point victors.
Loxton coach Mick Zerna, during his three-quarter time address, put the onus on his players to lift and tighten up.
He calmly demanded burly Aaron Sinkinson to make a presence in the last quarter.
The big man started the last stanza at centre half forward and make a presence he did ? not so with big possessions ? but with his bodywork.
It was four-quarter performer Matthew Schutz who had the glamorous last term. He sank Waikerie with four goals in that period and has his club sitting in outright top spot.
The reigning champions looked sharp early with Shane Clonan and Craig Underwood giving plenty of drive.
Their star full forward, Matthew Oliver, had three goals.
After a great early second quarter goal by the Magpies Matthew Underwood, there was a momentum shift.
Jesse Smith went into the ruck, inspired with a towering mark in the middle of the ground and the crowd became involved as did tigerish Cohen Thiele.
They found themselves 12 points ahead at half time.
Waikerie played the better football early in the third term.
A seemingly legitimate hip and shoulder was deemed illegal on Craig Underwood which resulted in a Daniel Smith major.
Another by Steve Hefford had the Magpies with the edge.
Oliver's two early last quarter goals put Waikerie 18 points clear and the second of those was a freakish 'off break'.
There was a final twist in this pressure-packed classic.
The next five goals belonged to the hosts with Schutz and Cohen Thiele the scorers.
It was the Tigers pace in midfield which came to the fore.
Cohen Thiele's form was as breathtaking as Schutz's four goal burst.
Pat Portolesi, Lindsay Mitchell and skipper Nick Uren all had strong games.
Raphael Liddle was an athletic forward for the hosts and his brother, Jamahl, equally as effective in defence.
Mark McConnell worked hard and Mal Hahn's contest with Oliver was tremendous.
For the Magpies Craig Underwood was impassable at half back.
Matthew Underwood kicked some great snaps among his four goal haul and Shane Clonan played superbly.
Oliver showed all that he is the best full forward in this competition as are the Tigers and Magpies being the best teams.

Win keeps Rovers in touch with four
Saturday's RFL game played at the Berri Oval certainly won't be remembered as a great spectacle, nevertheless Renmark's 12-point win over a disappointing Berri side was important to the Rovers.
Their second win of the season now sees them out of the four only on percentage behind Loxton North.
Renmark won the lacklustre contest mainly because they used the ball better around the ground and up forward Linden Goodman gave the Rovers more marking power and goal kicking potential than the Demons ever looked likely of producing.
Kicking to the northern end of the ground in the first quarter which was favoured by a two-goal breeze Renmark, who had Paul Burne, Goodman and defender Ash Lindner playing well, kicked a couple of quick, early goals to get away to a positive start.
Berri were being well served by Kale Reed and Jay Warland who were winning their share of the footy, however several turn-
overs when bringing the ball out of defence proved costly.
Great team play from Trevor Thorpe and James Pick resulted in goals to Renmark, allowing the visiting team to stretch their quarter time lead to 24 points.
Constructive play from Travis Voigt, who was having a great duel with Brett Exelby in the centre, ensured Berri played much better during the second quarter.
Two goals each to Darren Baker and Ash Gilliland put the Demons right back in the game before Goodman kicked a steadier for the Rovers.
Reed and Warland continued to do well for Berri, but it was Renmark's superior team work that was responsible for Burne kicking their seventh goal right on the half time siren.
Leading by five points at half time, the Rovers kicked the first goal of the second half when Burne kicked accurately on the run.
The high work rate of Peter Safralidis and Warland resulted in Berri scoring their seventh goal immediately afterwards as the game developed into a tense struggle.
Once again costly turnovers and poor discipline cost the Demons the initiative as Nathan Farr and Craig Seekamp kicked goals which extended Renmark's three-quarter time lead to 13 points.
Great agility demonstrated by Goodman plus excellent team play involving Pick, Burne, Exelby and James McNaughton earned the Rovers two early final quarter goals as Renmark looked to be the more composed side.
Coach Murray Voigt's ploy of alternating Terry Bonner and his son Travis between centre and full forward did seem to have some effect on the Rovers' defence as Berri's persistence allowed them to kick the last two goals of the match to reduce the losing margin.

Independent wrap-up

Postby Dogwatcher » Tue Jun 06, 2006 5:36 pm

Swans not written off yet
Paringa caused the upset of the Independent football season when they accounted for the previously undefeated Moorook-Kingston by 29 points at Moorook on Saturday.
The win was a huge confidence boost for the Swans who were yet to really challenge one of the top sides.
The match started evenly with neither side able to make a huge impact on the scoreboard but the Warriors were two men down early with Darren van der Woude and Matthew McCracken succumbing to injury.
The Swans were switched on in the second quarter and led by former Bulldog Simon Hucks, kicked seven goals to four to set up a 15-point lead going into the half time break.
Warrior Todd Elliot was in sublime form for his side as Moorook-Kingston kept up with the Swans before a Rob McLean blitz in the third quarter set his team alight.
McLean kicked three goals in four minutes on his young opponent Jono Wood, who until that point had enjoyed a good game, and could have had four in five minutes if not for some solid defence from the Swans.
The Warriors went to the three-quarter time huddle full of life while the Swans needed to regroup if they were to overcome the two goal deficit that faced them.
Surprisingly, the Swans finished the game full of run as Scott Nagel, Andy Lloyd and Todd Rivers dominated while Simon Sumner kicked his seventh from a tight angle as the Swans ran rampant.
They kept the Warriors scoreless in the final quarter as they rolled on to a 29-point win.

Dogs gnaw into first win
Wunkar notched their first win of the season when they fought off a determined effort from Brown's Well to win by 14 points.
The Bulldogs kicking for goal let them down and the margin probably should have been greater but full credit to the injury-stricken Bombers for pushing them all the way.
The Bulldogs only led by 10 points at half time before stretching their lead to 26 points at the final change.
Wunkar kicked 1-8 in the final stanza as they allowed the Bombers to close in on their target but the Dogs held on thanks to Nick Allen, Ben Albrecht and Kym Jachmann.
Brett Lines and Jachmann kicked three goals for Wunkar while big Ash Smith booted six for Brown's Well.
Former Loxton North players Russ Charles and Jeremy Vowles were Brown's Well's best while John 'Johnny-Cat' Sumner persisted in the forward line.

Tough away trip for Lions
Lyrup held onto fourth spot with a gritty away win over East Murray on Saturday.
The Lions defeated the East Murray by 35 points which is a fair effort on the Tigers' turf.
Robbie Bates has given Lyrup a new focal point up forward and the talented Lion kicked six goals on Saturday and was ultimately the main difference between the two teams.
Youngster Graeme England and veteran Dave Francis were in good nick for the Tigers while Matt Stasinowsky continued his good form.
Jason Johnson (four goals), Viv Rigney and Ben Roessel helped Lyrup maintain their grip on a spot in the top four.
