Minus in the backlines eh!

That comes from the feminine side of the family, both his mother and sister are netball goalkeepers but then they are both taller than him.

I was surprised to read your rating of the standard of Independent football. I have always rated it a lot higher however it can fluctuate from year to year but from the names I have read in best players for each team I would have thought it would rate a bit more highly.

Of course having only one grade does not do a lot for depth and the bottom club's do taper of according to their position on the ladder.

I have been umpiring Eastern Eyre A grade this year and while there are some standout players over here I believe that the likes of Paringa, Moorook, Lyrup and Cobby would compete favourably against teams from here. It would only be the depth that would test RI teams.

If RI receive good representation from the best players I can see them beating MM but it is a bit hard to judge from here. I did hear Cobby beat BSR pretty easy pre season and I guess you blokes would have played Ramco again, so there is your measuring stick.

I have tried the RFL website to look for the placed team but cannot find it, can you put it on this site.

Supa - I've got the team at home.
There are a lot of names you won't know, or might shake your head at.
A lot of players missing too.

As for my rating of Independent football- I was only guessing.
It's been a long time since I played Amateur League footy.
However, I did see the Div 6 GF between Elizabeth v Kenilworth GF last year and I was amazed at the standard of that game.
Depth wise, most Independent clubs would be swamped.
So maybe, Moorook, Cobby, Paringa and the like would be good in D5 or D6 reserves...

There are quite a few EM in the team nothing to do with the coach I suppose. In fairness EM have always had a strong tradition of wanting to play rep footy.

Simon Sumner, Darrell Tilbrook, Tom Graetz, Dave Francis and Shane Schulz would have been handy or have I been away for too long.

Heard from the BP last night, he is quite chuffed about making the team and honoured to have the responsibility of designated kicker in.

Just looking through the team and the spread of youth and experience, you haven't got yourself a leadership role have you Dogwatcher.

Good luck, hopefully I hear a result before Sunday morning.

Ah yup, leadership role co-cap with Tonks.

Simon Sumner woulda been handy, as would Todd Rivers.
There was talk that Tilly would play, but didn't train.
Tommy G - too modest. at his age he doesn't think he's good enough.

But you're not far wrong Supa.

Oh yeah big Dave and Shane woulda been useful.
But I don't think Dave's played a rep game since I've been in the Indys, and well we know Shane's injury story.

Apparently Shane begged to play against BW last week and the coach compromised and named him on the bench with the intention of just giving him a quarter at the most.

However the coach got sick of his whining and he came on before half time.

Tom Graetz must be the oldest footballer still playing at that level in SA. Tom and I were team mates in our first season of A grade for East Murray.

I wont say how long ago but we had a diamond instead of a square, there was no interchange and we didnt have any stripes on our shorts.

Long way to go mate.
I reckon we'd be the team on the edge and I'm not planning on not playing in September just yet.

Well Supaveteran, after our win on the weekend I had a look at the ladder and the program in regards to you visiting in September.

Assuming that Wunkar are a possibility to beat us. Which they maybe, I still don't think that they could get enough wins to make the four. As beating Paringa, Cobdogla and Lyrup is out of the question (I believe).

In their favour is that they play us twice more, Brown's Well once and Easy Murray once.

Assuming they won those four, add their two wins already, and that would be a total of six wins (12 points) with a low percentage.

We're currently on five and a half wins (11 points). So we'd only have to win once more to knock them and probably East Murray out of contention.

That's the way I read it. Still a little hope for them though.

I think the huge gap between the top four and the bottom three will determine that Wunkar will finish outside the four. They are determined however to finish fifth so they can claim the unofficial 'Mallee Premiership'.

Are you changing your 'call sign' to Dogwatcher 9.

Well done.

ha ha ha The Mallee Premiership - I like it!
It's sad that they're all fighting it out in the bottom three - scary for the future.

Cheers on the congrats. Was a very lazy day - was supposed to be on the ball. But Phil Watters got me out to the 'Mallee Oasis' 15 minutes before the game -so the legs were very heavy. Stayed at FF all day. Something I'm sure you'd appreciate.

Being from St Pauls i know we played cobby in the pre-season with a combined a's and b's side, im not sure what their strength was for that game but we just got up by a few goals. The cobby side that day in my opinion would be quiet competitive in div 7 here in Adelaide.

However an ordinary Wunkar side beat Flinders Uni A7's in the Wunkar Carnival a few years ago.

We also had Greenacres and Unley play in carnivals prior to that. In 2001 Greenacres were in A2 and were beaten by the Loxton A grade by over 10 goals and next day beat the Loxton B grade by about the same.

I dont think Greenacres have won a game since.

In 2000 Unley were beaten convincingly by Merbein and by about 8 goals to RSMU and they were A3 at the time.

Goodwood Saints played in 1999 and were a class above everyone else, demolishing Ironbank and then beat Loxton North by 15 goals when North were in their purple patch of 4 premierships in a row.

Back when I was endeavouring to secure sides to play in the carnival It was generally felt by the SAAFL club's themselves that A1 and A2 club's were powerhouse club's and teams from A3 to A6 were all of basically similar standard
