Eddie Betts was then a 15-year-old boy in Port Lincoln who was on the fast lane to a life of drugs and crime.

His parents had separated years earlier and he had spent most of his life living with his mother in Kalgoorlie, from where she travelled for tonight's game.

Betts made the decision that he could further his football career by returning to South Australia to live with his father Eddie, who had spent time in jail.

He joined the Mallee Park Peckers - a club which had produced AFL stars including his cousin Byron Pickett, Graham Johncock and the Burgoyne brothers, Peter and Shaun - when his mother intervened.

No not twins, not sure were Gavin is from. A mate told me Cleve only has a younger brother. Did Cleve play league footy for Norwood? pretty sure he didn't.
