Local clubs with the most SANFL or AFL products

Postby Battler » Wed Feb 02, 2011 7:47 pm

Reading the GSFL forum and noticed someone posted about Yankalilla producing Whittlesea,Koster and Gowling(?) as players who have gone onto play AFL footy. I dont know if there have been other topics about this but I thought it would be interesting to know which clubs have produced SANFL and AFL players. (Perhaps the criteria should include playing at least 1 game of SANFL league or AFL football.)
Who wants to get things started?

Also must have qualified after playing at your club. No ring ins in other words, like Ken McGregor for Encounter Bay or Peter Burgoyne for United.Im sure some will be listed across more than 1 club which is OK I suppose!

Pat Hynes (Port Magpies - late 70's / 80's)

I thought there were a few more 7Dog so I looked on the website "David Shillabeer (Norwood), Michael Fuller (Woodville), Michael Corey (Woodville), Robert Rozee (South Adelaide) Grant Fuller (South Adelaide) and Harry Kernahan (Glenelg/ State) .....Josh Coulter (Central Districts/North Adelaide)".
Didnt Ray Hanrahan play SANFL in his day. (Possibly before he came to Souths?)
Also, I thought Hynes came to South after he played at Port Adelaide. (Formerly from Whyalla wasnt he?)

Byron Pickett
Harry Miller Jnr
Peter Burgoyne
Shaun Burgoyne
Eddie Betts
Graham Johncock
Derek Wanganeen (on Hawthorn list this year)

Heard about 9 or 10 names, so I've missed a couple.

Even with 9 or 10 more, still seems low.

The Kangaroo Island posters will be better placed to verify this, but I reckon Parndana and to a lesser extent, Dudley United would both be right up there with both SANFL and AFL.

Kersbrook
Brett James
Roger James
Paul James
Sudjai Cook

Stefan Horvath. Did he play any games for North in the 80's or just reserves? was he from Kersbrook originally or only went there after his North stint?

Flagstaff Hill in the SFL have a pretty impressive record for blokes ending up on AFL lists. Not all have cracked the big time, but the ones listed below have at least been a part of an AFL list and played SANFL league footy.

Ben Marsh (Westies/Crows/Richmond)
Josh Krueger (Glenelg/Crows)
Adam Cooney (Westies/Western Bulldogs)
Brad Sugars (Glenelg/Crows)
Matt Martin (Westies/Power)
Daniel Webb (Westies/Power)
Danny Meyer (Glenelg/Richmond/Power)

Renmark
Mark Mickan (Brisbane Bears/Adelaide)
Bruce Lindner (Geelong/Adelaide)
Greg Dempsey (Adelaide)
Tony Modra (Adelaide/Fremantle)
Ryan Bennett (West Adelaide)
Nick Malinovski (West Adelaide)

I think Don and Hank Lindner might've been from Renmark too....

Might be missing a few too...
